okay traveler in time
I just come back from my THE GREAT DECEIVER-gig the new band of tomas lindberg as you knwo.I talked with him a little bit and asked the obvious AT THE GATES-question: whats about the rumours of an reunion?

tompa told me that he also hearded about these things but he doesnt know if they are true(hey he must know it better than me or everybody else) so there isnt so much in this direction as the poeple think :yell:

Hummmm, so that conversation at the London gig was shit or Tompa wasn't invited to it?

hm I dont know how does the london-news fit in what tompa told me
ist perhaps just an idea but nothing concrete
its like with celtic frost since years they tell the world they are working on a new album but nothing goes on

@rahvin:

it's not intolerable, but it's a cliched product without much originality, that pleases a certain crowd and takes no chances at developing new ideas.

No chances? I would have to disagree, without giving any examples. :p

Its funny that everybody here is bashing In Flames and Soilwork for trying to bring something new and original. I dont like In Flames very much (only Subteranean and Jester Race), but I support what they are doing (dunno if that makes any sense to anybody here). The same goes for Soilwork, but here its different, cause I really like all their albums.
And Salamurhaaja - its DT who have their heads in their asses, I really dont see ANY point in making two albums sounding almost the same (DD and Character) - its totally useless, because they said it all on The Minds I (just listen to those riffs and forget the keyboard and sample fuckery). But hey, what should they do, when after Projector people told them to go fuck themselves. I LOVE all DT albums up to Haven, cause each of them brought something new, but I really dont understand the reasons for making the last two.

what?
please read rahvin's post (again?).
i don't think anyone complained about the striving for originality, rather the turning away from it by becoming more predictable.

me too. but i don't get the same "wow" feeling from a new soilwork album as i did when i got for example a predator's portrait and natural born chaos.

i think it might have something to do with them liking to make music.

Quite the contrary, Im afraid - it has a lot to do with what their fans like to hear imo, but on the other hand, I wouldnt go so far as to say thats the only reason. Yeah, probably they like what they are doing, but I think its still a big compromise for them.

@krypton: my ears are not bad, but probably too demanding. :) Dont get me wrong, I still like the band and have all their albums. Its just my point of view. Maybe seeing them live would help a lot, I dont know. Shame is, they dont come anywhere near my whereabouts.

well, it's not really a question of what you (or i) may think about it...
either it's one way or the other.

however, for example projector wasn't exactly a commercial failure, in spite of some people telling them to "go fuck themselves". and there's been a lot of people, amongst them old-time fans, expressing wishes that stanne would use clean vocals again. to no effect, obviously, the band always responding that they do whatever feels right at the time. they'd probably please just as many fans by doing another projector-ish album, so where's the compromise?

Sadly now its the other way around

Indeed, it seems to me more like in most interviews with Stanne he gets asked if there'll be clean vocals this time around or why there aren't any...it's a bit rich to say that they're compromising by not having any.

Hmmm, well, I like both Stannes vocals, his lyrics, the fact he played guitar on Skydancer - hes really cool.

As for the previous discussion - I was really angry with Projector when Id first heard it, but now I think thats the shit. Maybe itll be the same with Damage Done and Character (I hope).

I got to see Dark Tranquility the other night supporting Soilwork and they kicked ass, great show all the way around. Soilwork owns in my opinion.

Also Who the fuck cares who thinks who's better anyways. Its all personal opinion. Not a single forum I have ever been on made me change my mind about liking a band, that comes with just taking the music in.

I agree with the fact that IF and SW suck now, but DT? In what nutshell do you live in partner? Maybe you should elaborate a little bit regarding your point of view about DT. What do you think makes them lame?

Dark Tranquillity is the best out of DT, Soilwork, and In Flames. Dark Tranquillity is the longest standing band from the Gothenburg melodic death metal scene. Granted, all three of these bands have had some incredible music, out of the three, Dark Tranquillity is the only one that I will buy new albums from because while they have evolved as a band, like every band does, their music is still very good. Also, in my personal opinion, In Flames's best stuff was with Mikael on vocals.

An unexpected newsbulletin today made the shock revelation that the vast majority of people in the Dark Tranquillity forum actually like Dark Tranquillity. A spokesman for the research movement involved said "It was a big surprise for us, we thought the majority of people here were only for the Gay Porn and Spam parties." When asked what she'd expected the forum members' feelings towards Dark Tranquillity to be, she responded. "We expected mixture of lust and dislike. We had no idea their music would be so popular on their own forum."
When the band were asked to comment, they only said "Eh? Drink? DRINK! AAAAAARGHH!"
