I love the part of the thread where he says Dark Tranquillity have "potential".
yep. me too.

edit: congratulations for finding this board and for making me post in the Opeth board for the first time in years. :D welcome.

i find it sadder that they target homosexuality than that they target dark tranquillity. you can dislike a band and still be a decent person, but the same does not apply to good old-fashioned intolerance.

What's saddest of all is that energy and smiles are now misconstrued as homosexuality. Although it brings the whole gay/gay thing full circle.

well Im not so much an opeth hater, dont misunderstand my quote, it was meant in a sarcastic way. Its not my intention to bash opeth and their fans. but what this guy wrote as critic and what other replied to that shows their not existent reason.
Okay I used to like Opeth very much(MAYH and Orchid are fantastic) but their last albums didnt touched me in any way and I was a little bit dissapointed.
but whats strange that these ultrafans are so much into opeth that there is nothing left beside opeth.(same with lots of Tool-freaks)they still do great and good music and they deserve their success, but a lot of their "fans" are really strange and closeminded IMO

I've noticed that closemindedness too. I mean, you generally don't see OMGZDTISAMAZING!!!!!111ONE or I<3Niklas posts on this board, and the number of such posts in the other boards i sometimes post in (Novembre @ UM, unofficial In Flames @ UM, Children Of Bodom @ UM, Into Eternity @ UM, Sirenia) seems to be much smaller than the number of them in Opeth's board (even though the IF and COB boards do have alarmingly large numbers of them).

I think this board definitely needs I<3Niklas and I<3Mikael posts to go with the whole gayness and anti-gayness thing.

I love Opeth (well okay I didn't like GR) but that pretty much sums up my opinion of a majority of their fanbase.

Please don't speak too loudly (fanboys might hear you and start flooding this haven with such horrible posts). Über-gayness is one thing.. extreme fanboy idiocy is another.

In case your response is directed this way, I didn't mean to imply anything bad when saying your earlier statement was profound. It's true on many levels. Thanks for the further clarification, though.

this is, i believe, a rather old topic when it comes to metal music. i know you were swept away by it more recently than i was (back in 1993 for me, or something equally hilarious), but nothing much changed since then except the names of the bands. lack of maturity is still defined as recognizing a certain sound --> style --> group you belong to as an aggregation of child-like values you think are full of merit: clearly, masculinity and an uncompromising sexist stance are prominent in the list. small scenes are attractive to the nerds, pariah and the socially inept because they seem to offer an opportunity to belong to something that gives them recognition as half-decent human beings. growling, or associating yourself with someone who does, is obviously a way to believe yourself strong, for instance.

it takes a while before people realize the connection is all in their minds. for some, it probably takes forever. assuming that the original poster is in his early twenties or younger, i have no problem seeing through the rejection of certain behaviors as a sign of weakness: his peers play tough thug every day at school, and the music that represents him has to be in tune with that image: he's angry, lonely, dissatisfied and mean-looking, as anything else is probably just what a girl would be.

Hey guys,

Haven't posted on the DT board before but wondering if you guys have it in your hearts to help out a n00b :D

Did anyone manage to get the setlist for this show. Would help me in a review I am writing.

After the show some drunk guy came up to my buddy Nick and said "Hey man you guys were great tonight" got a picture with him and left. Best we could figure is the guy thought he was Mikael Stanne which is hilarious because Nick doesn't even have a full beard :tickled:

The Wonders at Your Feet
Lost to Apathy
The Treason Wall
Punish My Heaven
Damage Done (I think it was at this point)
The New Build
Monochromatic Stains
My Negation
Final Resistance

"They've made it to the US on tour with OPETH all the way from Sweden. That takes some hard work" was my favourite part. As if playing in the US is the only way a band can prove their worth.

(note the caps for opeth)
