Hmm, interesting. A 3rd, mono overhead would really hit the spot for some of the wider kits I've been dealing with. Sometimes you just can't cover every aspect of the kit with two. Cool stuff.

Anyone got some general observations about his drum techniques? I'm fairly unfamiliar apart from the photos. How many room mics, knee highs, mic above drummer's head, bullet mic? etc.

he posts on gearslutz occasionally under stereomixer and has revealved quite a lot.

with room mics, its pretty standard fare - pretty sure i read he walks around the room and puts them in places that sound good. usually squashes the fuck out of them in the mix. pretty sure he's a fan of the spx990 on drums

He said ( in the Riot! thread) he sent the snare to a spx90 "for a lo-fi nineties sound that I did ride a lot during mixing"
