I'm looking at getting a cheap and somewhat decent studio drumset for walk-ins that don't have their own set.
I'm considering this Ddrum Diablo set with is only $470.

Anyone have experience with these?:kickass:

Surely it's atleast "decent" being ddrum.....:erk:

Actually, the ddrum acoustic drums are getting some good reviews but I would shy away from any new drum manufacturer until they know what they are doing. Remember the early Mapex kits? They sucked ass. It took them a decade to refine their design specs and manufacturing processes.

Yamaha acoustic kits are nice but overpriced for comparable kits but other companies.

Check into Mapex or Sonar. Their entry level kits are quite nice for the price. Both are made at the same facility.

Stage Customs seem like the best bang for the buck! That said, Sonor Force2001 seem like nice drums too...
With new skins and well tuned they are not very far from pro sounding drums... I have to dig out a recording a friend of mine did with it and I'll post it for you to listen.

EDIT:
here's a Stage Custom clip:

Rough mix, no reverb, snare a little low, but you'll get the general picture.

You guys are setting him up $400 over his price point. For that price he can get a set of Sonor 3005s!!

all of the things you mention have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the drums, though. For all intensive purposes, a really nice and well-tuned 20" kick will sound as good if not better than any 22" kick. And while suspended toms can help with resonance of the drum, it still entirely depends on the quality of the shell.

I don't want to come off like a dick or anything, i'd just hate to see you invest money in some unproven new drum fad. Choices are quite limited in your price range, though. In 99% of any gear purchases, you get what you pay for. But hey, if you get 'em and they sound killer, props to you man. Just please, get them black. silver and blue just makes my flesh crawl.
