Death Magnetic - Out Sep. 12 Worldwide

I admit, I haven't heard the GH version. But I don't see the point - I usually buy albums. If I download them, it's only for a few days, maybe a week before I either purchase them or delete them. If there was an option to buy the GH version, I probably would.

How'd I miss this post? Just download the damn GH3 version. They sold you a piece of shit. You got ripped off. It's far more immoral to purchase this album and encourage/financially support the musically destructive practices of it than to download a version of it that isn't even available for purchase in the first place.

And you already bought the album anyway. They already have your money, and you still won't download it? Metallica, of all bands. Not some struggling obscure band who actually needs album sales. Their propaganda has really hit you hard, hasn't it? Stop letting them walk all over you.

It's not the fucking band responsible for the album sound, when will you get that? They were in fucking Europe when the album was mixed and mastered. It's their mixing & mastering guys, maybe under the pressure of the label, to blame, not the band itself.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I didn't buy the album.

Good.

And? What does this have to do with anything? Regardless of if it was the label or shitty engineers, the fact remains that by purchasing this shitty album, you're filling their pockets and only encouraging them.

Negative, it's their fault. They, along with Rick Rubin, wanted a loud album. This is why it was brickwalled before it was even mastered. Whoever engineered the retail mix was under the command of the band and Rubin and thus they are all to blame.

I think Death Magnetic is a very decent album. Some cool riffs and well composed songs. Hetfield has some pretty good melody lines, and his voice seems to be in good shape.
I don't mind the songs being a little long. Because it works, and doesn't get boring. Judas Kiss is probably my favorite. That's some heavy shiat.

Kirk is back shredding again, wich is great, but his playing on this album isn't very interresting really. Probably the worst Kirk solos in Metallica history, but it's decent.

The production I agree is a total failure. They have all the opportunities in the world of making it sound good. They have all the gear everyone else dream about owning. They hire fkn Rick Rubin. How they acheeved to make it sound so bad is pretty much a mistery to me.
As someone else said they should stick to their old sound. I personally think that the Garage Inc. Disc 1 is the best they have ever sounded production wise. Why the hell fix what isn't broken?

7/10

I got bored of it really fast, and I only heard it about 5 times

i gotta say, DM hasn't left my cd player since i got it. i particularly like all nightmare long and the instrumental, suicide and redemption. i think it's a fucking awesome album all over, and at first i was kinda suprised they can still play like this after all these years, but then, they are metallica, goddammit! \m/

Production issues aside (Everyone agrees that the production on this album sucks), I just don't think this is a very strong album. I've been listening to it for over a month, and I REALLY wanted to like this album. I really did. But the problem for me is the songwriting. To my ears, there are no "stand out" tracks here. Don't get me wrong...it's not a BAD album. But it's not all that great either. It's just kinda "ehhhhhh" for me. I know I probably sound like an old 80's "Give me thrash era Metallica or give me nothing at all" kinda guy.....but I remember listening to certain songs off of Lightning or Master or Justice and saying to myself "Yeah, this song is KILLER. This song is going to be a CLASSIC!" I remember saying that the first time I heard "For Whom the Bell Tolls" or "Sanitarium" or "One." I even remember saying that to myself during the 90's when I didn't particularly care for the direction the band was going in anymore. There were still certain songs during the Load / Reload era that were good songs. Songs that stuck with you.

But I'm listening to this album, and the writing is just kinda...mediocre. I dig some of the songs while I'm listening to them. But as soon as I stop listening, and put the CD away, I don't find myself going back to them. There's just nothing that sticks with me. Nothing that I listen to and say to myself "Yeah, now THAT is a Metallica classic! That's one that they're going to be playing in concert for the next ten years."

This had all the markings of being a fantastic album. They had a ton of time to write the songs, they had Rick Rubin at the helm, they had Rob on bass and he is a monster bass player....and God knows they've had enough flack during the last five years after the nightmare that was St Anger to know what they did wrong on that record. And I was expecting something phenomenal. Maybe I was expecting too much? I dunno. I was expecting to be blown away by this album, but I just wasn't.

Just my $0.02. Your mileage may vary.
