Decent guitars on the cheap?

Schecter, Dean, ESP. Jackson is too hit-or-miss, and you'll regret the Ibanez unless you get one of the good ones - and you have to pay out the ass for those.

i just bought the 7 string ibanez for $379.00 at Sam Ash, and altough i am not a guitar player (i'm a bass player) but i can play some guitar, and i like it alot. i bought it for writing stuff when a guitar payer is not around.

The reason I say they suck is because they don't have any balls to thier tone. They play great, don't get me wrong, but the tone is seriously lacking.

Schecter is a far better guitar for the money.

True that, but a DiMarzio X2N will work wonders, trust me ;) It sure did in my S. The pups in my RG suck donkey balls though.

I think to simply say "Schecter has a better tone" isn't always true. Tone is always subjective, and while a set-neck schecter may have more low end beef, I've never had a guitar that sounds "angrier" than my Ibanez. That said though, in answer to the question, EBAY. Or any second hand market really, you could get something really nice Jap or even US from the 80s or something for less than 500. My main axes cost me £240 and £120...

With a Schecter, you can turn down the 'beef'... if you try to add 'beef' to an Ibanez it just sounds fake. That said, I wouldn't trust most sellers on eBay, make sure they're big sellers with great feedback if you do go that route. My first electric was/is a used Dean that cost me $150, my other electric is a $500 Schecter... you don't have to pay a lot, but I'd definitely try before buying.

$500 ?

PRS SE Singlecut
ESP EC 400
Parker PM20
Dean EVO Noir

These are the best-playing $500 range metal guitars I have owned.

The fretwork on the Dean & Parker from the factory were way above-average.

Drop in some decent pickups & get it intonated properly for your tuning.

I never cared for Ibanez or Jackson, personally. Schecters sound proper, but something about them feels awkward to me. I did have a black 007 Elite that was pretty nice, good fretwork.

I'd like to try some of the Agile line... I've never seen one in person.

hmm Ibanez for primary guitar you should really save for around the RG3120 and after spend 2K, you have to replace the pickups - and I love the playing on them

What about a Tokai ? if theres no need for tremlo system, get a Tokai les paul copy put a set of emgs 81/85 with 18 volt down the track and your all sorted
