White Pony is a masterpiece, and its sad that people always lump them in with "nu-metal" without even hearing them, or biasing against them simply because of that. They are a great band.

theres way too many things wrong with this statement. how are you in anyway qualified to say that the Deftones are "fuckers who want to make money instead of good music"? because their music is quite a bit more accessable than brutal death metal? just how much of their music have you heard and sat down and gave a chance? this is exactly the bias that I'm talking about. people don't want to listen and give each band a fair and unbiased chance, especially if they are this so called "nu-metal", when i changed from a nu listener to what i listen to now, i was just like that until I matured and opened my mind and went back and gave a lot of my old nu metal cd's a chance, and I realized there isn't a whole lot wrong with them. I'm not expecting everyone to agree, but stop such assumptions and bias towards popular stuff. The Deftones make better music than shitloads of underground bands I can think of.berkleyblack said:

theyre all good, but White Pony is absolutely incredible. I love the surreal feel the entire album has, "art-metal" is a very good description of their music, and Chino's voice also deserves special mention. his moans really add to the surreal feel of the record. the droning melodic feel throughout it is awesome too....man, what a great album....
on kazaa I heard a slightly varied version of back to school. it did not have "mini maggit" in parentheses and the riffs lasted slightly longer at the beginning between each of his phrases, and the vocals didn't hit as high

it was just called "back to school"? you sure it isn't "Pink Maggit", the last song off White Pony? because that one starts out very quite and droning, then goes into the chorus part that uses that riff....its about 7 minutes long, its also probably my favorite deftones song....ryan1987online said:

I know what I heard. it wasn't the last track from white pony. it was a different-sounding version of "back to school". it's not a surprise seeing as how I've found other versions of other bands' songs online as well, like "These Hands" by Pressure 4-5..I found a different version of it than what's on the album Burning The Process
