Destruction of Oz Cancelled!

wanna know why it was cancelled? BECAUSE IT WASN'T ADVERTISED PROPERLY!!!! i never even heard of it until i read about it on this board!! it took me about a week before i even checked the thread out of shear boredom!

Yeah Record labels/promoters aren't doing enough to push the concerts and shit. I have heard more about gigs over the grapevine than seen an ad for or anything

I never had any intention of going, because I don't even have a passing interest in any of the bands, with the slight exception of Doro. But, and this is my opinion, these things should grow from little things, particularly where a relatively underground scene is invovled. I reckon there should have been a year or two, or maybe three, of smaller scale tours with maybe some of the bigger Australian bands, like Dungeon and the like, and a maybe a smaller name international headliner. Then, once the name "Destruction of Oz" is a bit known in scene for putting on good quality, good value shows, they should have started with the bigger name headliners.
For mine, that would mean a cheaper show, but still with the grand intentions of making it an international style "event".

Yeah shame that Destruction of Oz was cancelled , I was'nt going but is dos'nt help the "Metal " cause downunder. I was in Impact records making a couple of purchases actully discussing its cancellation when a young bloke came in & was going to buy some tickets , quite gutted he was , naturally..............

I have to agree here. Despite what others have said on other boards, even Cryptopsy would be hard-pressed to do much business if they did a headlining tour of their own. I reckon they'd be lucky to fill the Bar Broadway or the Annandale here in Sydney and they have 400 capacity. So all of those acts put together represent maybe 800 tickets (from people in Melbourne), with maybe a couple hundred others from people in other cities who most likely would be the kind of fan who would travel interstate anyway. That makes 1000 or so, plus maybe another 200 hundred or so who would have turned up at the last minute and paid at the door to get in. Total: 1200, 1300 or so tops! Now, if you had put say Dimmu Borgir on the bill as the dedicated headlining act, that's 1000 tickets right there.

Unlike the first where Oz is a beautiful magical place lol, Return To Oz starts with Dorothy seeing a psychiatrist in a mental house thing then she escapes and ends up in Oz again because of this magic key.... but Oz has changed! It's in total ruins.. the yellow brick road is all crumbled, there are demented henchmen on wheels called the "Wheelies", and there is a wicked princess who has heads on her wall!!
It's awesome! That film stuck in my head much more vividly from when I was a kid than the original did!
