Digidesign´s new product for Guitarrist

It's $200 more than an x3 pro but is more flexible and comes with protools. Unless it sounds like shit I don't see what the big failure is other than some guys hate everything digi does. The proof is in the sound obviously.

Couple questions about this.. For those of you who work in, run or own studios, what is your preference for an output format? Meaning, if you had the choice, would you ideally use SPDIF, USB, AES/EBU or do you prefer XLR or TRS?

Also, does AES/EBU actually transmit digital audio like SPDIF or USB? I don't know WTF AES/EBU is.

Aside from the more intuitive interface, what's this do that the Axe-FX doesn't/can't?

I wasn't saying I hate this device. I think the USB connectivity over FW is a bit fail, but overall this isn't a bad device .

I'm saying there are amps in that price range I would rather have (like a used AC30CCH for example).

^^Totally not aimed at you specifically. I just generally think it's funny that people have their minds made up w/o playing with the box. I imagine that usb was a choice of ubiquity more than anything else but it wouldn't be my preference either. I understand the amp thing too but obviously that's not a direct comparison.

+1 its all about the sound. i'm the first to say that most all-in-1s are crap, as quality usually suffers. but i'd definitely be down to getting one if it sounds good, esp re: the DI recording/reamping features. and does it run PT on its own? can it replace my mbox?

AFAIK AES/EBU is just another medium of transmitting digital data, usually through XLR cables (at least they look like XLR cables :D), and I believe it's limited to two channels, like SPDIF. Not really sure why anyone would use it instead of SPDIF, since the latter seems to be more supported, but who knows - and for me, SPDIF would be my choice for a modeling gizmo, since the signal wouldn't have to be converted back to analog within it to be sent out a TRS output, then back to digital after hitting the interface. On the other hand, that would be the only way to run it through a nice colored preamp if you so desired...

As for the last question, not much if anything I'd wager, just different sounds!

I really like the idea of recording 3 tracks from eleven's usb port ( stereo output with modelling and DI track)
But all I've heard from eleven was just midgain sounds, so well, we'll have to wait to hear it properly.

AES/EBU has higher headroom (24bit) than S/PDIF (20bit) is one good reason to use it and the connector is a lot sturdier.

Code:
                          AES/EBU S/PDIF (IEC-958)

Cabling 110 ohm shileded TP 75 ohm coaxial or fiber
Connector 3-pin XLR RCA (or BNC)
Signal level 3..10V 0.5..1V
Modulation biphase-mark-code biphase-mark-code
Subcode information ASCII ID text SCMS copy protection info
Max. Resolution 24 bits 20 bits

S/PDIF is the consumer version of AES/EBU. And is more commonly found in interfaces.

This product DOES integrate somewhat into LE, M-P, and HD systems. There is a PT 8.0.1 update for Eleven Rack users that installs the new plugins, guitar toolbar, and metadata functions.

If you don't use the rack as your primary interface, connect the outputs of the box into your interface, preferably with digital connections. Connect the USB to the computer to enable the plugin/hardware control.
Unfortunately it won't work as an aggregate device (no additional i/o)
It is undecided if the RTAS/TDM versions of Eleven will be updated to include the rack version's functions.

the opinions on Eleven seem to vary so widely it is hard to tell how good it really is unless you have actually used it. Some say it is the worst thing ever and some say it is the best amp sim on the market. Whenever I used Eleven I didn't have problems. I think its a good tool for demos, but that is about it.
