Digidesign Control|24

The pre's on the control 24 aren't so great, I think they are the same as the ones they stick in the m-box, they're focusrite, but they're still crap. Definitely buy one for the control surface and think of the pre's as a bonus. My only complaint about the control 24 is the faders aren't as smooth and nice as the ones on the pro-control. I have heard the ones on the C-24 are supposed to be much better, but I have never actually used one. I really only ever use faders on control surfaces, so I can't really comment on any of the other functions.

They're about as focusrite as i am Jesus/flying spaghetti monster

I think it's also important that people remember that there are red's and ISA's but most of focusrite's current pre's are pretty mediocre IMO. It's not to say that it's bad stuff, it's just that you're at best talking about getting a couple of octopre's $10k control surface.

Exactly.
I've got an ISA 428 and i'd say THATS pretty mediocre

Could be just me, but I actually prefer the Octopre to the preamps in the 003 for instance. Actually did a session (and have another one starting tomorrow) at a place where the only options are an Octopre and a 003, and the Octopre performed really well for the price.

I would buy a C24 or control 24 defiantly.

Ive used an ICON for the last year and a half and for me the work flow thing is awesome, but I wouldn't pay what they ask for it. I would however pay for a C24 or control 24 for sure. Quiet the opposite, great value for money.

Well, there ARE also cheaper options for Control24 and C24, like these... http://www.mackie.com/products/mcupro/splash.html

...but personally I hated to work with the Tascam, it is used as a FOH mixer in one cafe and pretty much every FOH-engineer complains about the mixer. But it might be more ideal solution for studio enviroment.

edit: ah, but it has to work with pro tools? then nevermind.

edit2: ah, the mackie controller works with protoos:

The MCU Pro contains many enhancements, including an onboard USB MIDI interface, the opportunity for seamless expansion and a sleek new look. MCU Pro and MCU share the same music production software support, and Lexan overlays are included for the following applications: Pro Tools, Cubase/Nuendo, Digital Performer, Tracktion and SONAR.

Yes, I have considered them. The Mackie's have no metering, and the base unit plus two fader expanders would cost about 3.000€, which is the same as a used Control24. The Behringers don't have track displays OR metering, both of which I mentioned in the first post. The Tascam seems to cost about $4.800, so I can't really see how it's cheaper :loco:

Out of luck with those, then.
