What a load of crap! The only good thing is that O/D are still gonna stick with O/D Saxon and not go by the name of just Saxon. What a bloody nightmare that would be!
If O/D Saxon won the right be be Saxon I'd have sh*t myself. It's still lame.
Ratt won this case over Stephen Pearcy because he was trying to be "Ratt: Featuring Stephen Pearcy" but I think Oliver/Dawson Saxon might prove to be different enough to keep from being illegal.
I'd be fine with that if that's how gigs were advertised and they called themselves Oliver/Dawson Saxon on stage, but they don't.

I did actually read it wrong and thought they were going to be called SAXON and not sticking to Mickey/Mouse Saxon. It still sucks though as Biff IS Saxon.

Olivers CD 'End of an Era' is, quite surprisingly, not too bad really. What we should be doing is hammering the god awful shite that is Re:Landed and while were on the subject, anyone heard Dobbys solo effort 'Pandemonium Circus' yet? if so, whats it like? (Don't tell me, 13 tracks of uninspired bass solos??)

It's too bad you're all stricktly a bunch of blind 'Biff Worshippers'. No denying Biff is a great singer, but HE'S NOT Saxon ! Saxon is a collaboration of talented artists, and if it wasn't for Oliver / Dawson / Byford / Quinn / Gill in the first place, there wouldn't be all those great early Saxon albums, nor would the road have been paved by those first albums for the future through the 80s, 90s to the present. All the songs you guys keep on spouting off as your fave's were written by Oliver / Dawson WITH Byford, so 'Twisted Tony', you'd better trash all the old albums as well, and you 'saxonfan', perhaps you ain't !. Ya gotta know, that if Biff wasn't such a controlling egomaniac, and thinking it's HE who is Saxon, the departure of past members might not have happened in the first place.
Oliver's solo album has some good stuff on it, but as he even writes in the liner notes '' like all guitarists, I have compositions and personal favourites which never see the light because of the style of band you're associated with '', so , for those of you who think his solo album is trying to compete with Biff's Saxon, you've lost the point of it all !
As for Dawson's solo CD, it's a collection of demos from after he originally got kicked from Saxon in the mid-80's. They'd been on the shelf for years. It's definately worth picking up.
But, be clear, I am a dedicated Saxon fan since 1982, I have all the old stuff, the 'new' Biff stuff, as well as the O/D stuff, the SOB album and the solo albums. (Just like for eg. I still buy the 'new' Judas Priest stuff, have the old stuff, and the Halford solo stuff (Fight, Two, etc), and the Tipton solo. ) I am more open minded than some of you apparently are and I appreciate ALL the musicians and what they write. So quit your bitching and give it ALL a listen. Sure, if it wasn't for Biff, there'd be no Saxon as we know it, but if it wasn't for Oliver / Dawson, there'd be no Saxon either. I given the SOB album a listen and I think it SUCKS!!!! And I am pretty open minded about what I listen to 'Saracen84'. The SOB songs that I heard weren't anything special.
I just think that the judgement SUCKS! Biff and Paul have kept Saxon going all these years. They've put alot more blood, sweat and tears into it's legacy. Oliver and Dawson may have been their at the beginning, but they got kicked out or left for their own reasons. To come out now and try and take the name away is an injustice to the fans.

I've never posted on this forum before but have read this thread with interest having been a Saxon fan for the last 20 odd years or so. I have to totally agree with Conquistador here.....just ignore the Mickey/Mouse Saxon....love that

OD Saxon played in Hull last wednesday and in our local newspaper they were down as 'Legendary Rockers Saxon'
I never went along to this gig (I can't justify supporting imposters) but in some respects I wish I had just to see what reception they received.

As far as I am aware this ruling only applies in the UK where OD have the name trademarked.
For other countries to follow suit they would have to trademark the name in every country, a small fortune will be needed here, so Europe and USA etc will get (Biffs) SAXON billed as SAXON.
I think most people are right here - All the true fans know what the real deal is, in any case if a new fan sees OD Saxon and decides to buy some new stuff - what they gonna buy - HMT, KG, Metalhead, UTB, the new DVD etc? So (Biffs) Saxon will benefit anyway !!!!!!!!!!!
