Saracen84 - There is nothing wrong with you expressing your opinion. Now f**k off back to the mickey mouse website!
Only joking!
I have said before that I am sure that Biff is less then whiter then white in all this. But this judgement really does stink and makes no sense at all. If Saxon had split up and then Biff/Paul and Oliver/Dawson had set up their own 'Saxon', then both parties would have every right to call their band Saxon. But seeing as Steve Dawson, and then Graham Oliver both left Saxon (and had no connection at all with the band for a number of years), what right do they have to call themselves Saxon now? I mean, why don't I set up a band and call it Paxo's Motorhead?!!
Oliver/Dawson got together and reformed Son of a bitch (which they were both in BEFORE Biff/Paul joined), so why not stick with that name? After all, that was THEIR band. But they didn't because they wern't getting anywhere, so they thought they would leach off the Saxon name.
It is fair enough to say that all true Saxon fans know who is who, so we should just ignore O/D Saxon. But that is missing the point completely. Other rock fans DON'T know and are being misled. And the singer in O/D Saxon is so poor, that it kills me to think that rock fans are seeing O/D Saxon and thinking that they are watching one of the great names in heavy metal gone shit! But Saxon HAVEN'T gone shit, they are better then ever. O/D are just killing the Saxon name, dragging it through the mud. I'm sorry but that just isn't right.
'OD Saxon played in Hull last wednesday and in our local newspaper they were down as 'Legendary Rockers Saxon'
That is why this ruling is a total farce.
No true Saxon fan will have anything to do with O/D now, which in a way is sad. But they have brought it on themselves. As Saracen84 rightly said, as Saxon fans we should follow all members of Saxon past and present. But that is never going to happen with O/D now. It would have happened though, if they had stuck with the SOB name.
Whatever Biff has done to Steve Dawson and Graham Oliver, it doesn't outweigh what Steve Dawson and Graham Oliver have done to the name of Saxon. And to me, a Saxon fan for 22 years, that is unforgivable.
