For those of you who know me as a regular on this board I'm a pretty big fan of the hardcore, metalcore, grindcore and so forth scene..and havent in the last few months given much attention to black metal, death metal, or any of the like...well within the last few weeks I have made a point to rediscover my love for death and black metal...It has made a full recovery with tonight's purchase of DISSECTION - The Somberlain...never in my life have I heard such a beautiful black metal band....just a perfect cd. It makes me want to break out all of my Emperor, Bathory, Dimmu and Darkthrone tee shirts and sport them!! Anyone care to comment?

I'm a big death metal fan but not really a black metal one with the exception of a few bands. I love some Emperor songs. Haven't heard of Dissection. I gotta check them out.

Yeah. I think Storm Of The Light's Bane is even better. I also was more into metalcore, hardcore, etc. a couple years ago after being a death/black metal fan for many years, and then I got back into death metal and black metal more than I ever was. Death metal and black metal are currently, and probably alawys will be, my favorite genres.

maybe in your opinion Ravnanger but you're just a worthless newbie so your opinion is not worth anything sorry.

Sacramentum's "Far Away From the Sun" is similar but superior to "The Somberlain". Necrophobic's "The Nocturnal Silence" is similar but superior to "Storm of the Light's Bane".

Yeah, and that's not up to anyone else to decide on their own opinion either.

Excuse me while I buck the trend of starting every comment with "IMO".

The material I mentioned is far more coherent in its composition, continue preferring Dissection though you've not heard "Far Away From the Sun" or "The Nocturnal Silence" if you wish. I really couldn't care less.

Far Away From the Sun is better than The Somberlain, but both albums are great.

Storm of the Light's Bane is a very good album, I've heard that The Nocturnal Silence is better but I haven't heard it.

Actually I've heard both. In fact I own FAFTS...I'm just making a point that because you prefer an album over another doesn't mean it's better.

Those albums are less linear and more consistent by far. They are compositionally superior and I prefer them. By no means did I intend to indicate that you must agree.
