Distortus Maximus

Damn, that doesn't sound that bad actually. Kinda thin, but still cool.

Might be a cool little toy for guys who only have like a Recto to be able to track Krankish sounding tracks in with 2 Recto tracks.

Would be great if Andy or someone else post a clip of this toy, if andy says that this thing rocks, most be a good piece of gear and isn´t expensive.

I own both a Krank Revolution 1 2 x12 combo and the Krank Distortus Maximus pedal. I owned the pedal fisrt and ran it to a Fender Twin amp. I hated the drive channel in that amp as it is more classic rock then modern Metal. I never even heard of Krank before I tried out there pedal. It blew me away. I actually demo'd it against a ToneBone Hot British and I liked the Krank alot more. That pedal left me wanting the entire thing so I got rid of the Fender and got the Revolution 1. The pedal gets you close to the Revolution 1 tone but nothing beats the real thing.
My Fender Twin amp with the Krank pedal was awesome. I used no other effects, I enjoyed that tone so much.

I tried the Krank Pedal going into the clean channel of the Krankenstein at Musikmesse/Frankfurt this year and it sounded a lot thinner than the amp in gain mode. I barely played through it for a minute and then asked Jody (Krank guy) to take it out.

I haven't compared it to other distortion pedals, but in comparison to the amp itself it didn't sound very good.

Well, i think this is obvious, no pedal is better than a hi gain tube amp, at least i haven´t tried one, but i think is a good alternative for low budget guys(like me) specially for gig use, is a pain in the ass to carry out the Rack case, to every gig, this think maybe make things more easy(if is that good).:)

It depends on your current amp. When I owned a Fender Twin amp, I played the clean channel with the Distortus Maximus, it killed. It came really close to the Revolution 1 sound. I was actually suprised how close it got. But it's not as good. It doesn't thunder like the Rev 1 does. I got the combo and it sounds as strong as a killer Bass amp. I can Palm mute and basically crack my Concrete basement wall with the damn thing. The Pedal doesn't pack that kind of force but if your current amp has alot of bottom end, you can get close to that Kank tone. It's the best Distortion pedal I have ever used and let me to the Rev 1 combo. I had the fender Twin with a ToneBone Hot british right before it. When I got the Krank pedal , I longed for more. The gain channel in the revolution 1 in by far my favorite gain to date.

What were you running it in front of? The Genz Benz combo I was running it through was fairly cheesy, perhaps through something better it would sound nicer. I do really want to like the pedal still, I can tell it has potential.

yeah the amp obviously makes a huge difference. Didn't sound too good through a boogie clean channel, ok into a Marshall and most effective into a Krank clean channel. It reminds me of the solid state Randall X2 that I tried a year or so ago. It's good, I doubt I'd use it instead of the amp distortion but I've not tried micing it yet.
