Dragon seems to be more of a modern take on the 1176 from what I've seen. Their marketing material even seems to claim that it starts with the same basic circuit but essentially 'supercharges' it.

Distressor is a VCA comp. Distinctly different sound.

...and if given the choice, I'll take the 1176... I mean come on, it's the 1176

btw, you had a Distressor and you're on PC and using VST's, right? Would you like to compare the plugin that I linked above to the real deal?
