Disturbing Acoustic Noise in Porcelain Heart?

Is anyone else disturbed by the "finger sliding noise" on the acoustic parts of Porcelain Heart?
They appear for instance at times:

I have not experienced anything similar on any other Opeth album. Otherwise, I love the song.

When you think about it when you listen to it, it's annoying as hell. Other than that I think the sound is pretty sweet.

LOL, For me it was quite normal sound... I guess for those who don't play the guitar this sound is very weird.
But anyway I think that's the first time I noticed Mike recording acoustic riffs with a classic guitar (nylon strings)
Or maybe in the other songs I just didn't pay too much attention hehehhehehehe

I think that guitarists tend to ignore these sliding sounds as we are used to them and simply cancel them out of the listening experience. So their being there actually adds to the naturality of the sound. Non-guitarists probably find it harder to adjust to.

It is odd that it seems to be more pronounced on a nylon strung guitar. Wouldn't that effect be more pronounced on a steel strung guitar? Anyhow I like that they kept the sliding because it's more natural. On parts like Porcelain Heart, where the acoustic guitar is the only instrument playing, you tend to hear the slides but more of the time they aren't noticed. I've even heard of electronic music adding synthesized slides to synth guitar parts which is kind of interesting.

^Synth guitar will never sound natural in my opinion. All the synth stuff I've heard seems very fake. Anyway, I think it's more got to do with miking. If a mic is pointing towards the fretboard or can capture sounds from there, they will be more pronounced.

I think Mike purposefully brings out those string noises.. there're a LOT on Damnation as well, particularly Windowpane. It is possible to make a lot less noise when changing chords, but Mike definitely doesn't try to remove the sound from his playing. I like it for the most part, but on Windowpane I find it a little excessive.

(and yes, miking can make a difference to the sound, which is another reason I think they make an effort to bring those noises out)

I agree. Damping with strips probably doesn't sound natural on an acoustic (never tried it myself) but you can reduce it to a certain extent with normal damping. And in this album Mike is making no effort whatsoever to reduce it, which gives a nice sound I think.

If you are referring to the squeaks around 5mins+ in Windowpane, I think they sound a bit excessive because they are on an electric. I remember the first time I put the cd in my car stereo they felt very sharp and irritating too.

The noises in question aren't exclusive to acoustic guitars... and I don't think anyone said there were acoustic guitars on Windowpane.

Yeah, I've found them most noticable in my car stereo too.

As a guitarist, I also have to pay attention to notice these sounds, you just get used to it.
Amazing how you managed to point out all the parts where that sound is heard !
Just to give you an example that it's not new to Watershed : give a listen to the acoustic part of Karma (MAYH), at 2:55... there's plenty of them.

we try our best to get rid of the scraping noises that steel acoustic guitars end up bringing to the recording..but it's pretty much impossible to get of completely..but I did notice it alot in porcelain heart. You can hear it all over Damnation and Still Life as well...doesn't really tarnish the music but it is noticeable if someone has OCD.

To me, it's a natural sound that comes along with playing an acoustic...I don't even notice it anymore, really.
