Heaven and Hell. I am so sick of hearing those two particular words.
No, I don't believe in Hell, as I don't believe in God or Heaven, or the supernatural, and I am not particularly interested in metaphors about their existence on earth, either.
How conveniant that there just happens to be these two places, these two extreme sides of the coin, and how utterly conveniant it is that people are told to make a goal of worshiping their God to gain entry to the good one and avoid the bad.
The whole concept of heaven and hell is a mind game, the idea that some grand paradise awaits you when you die, a delusion. One that only serves to make it easier for human beings to embrace death, in all it's grotesque forms.
Without a Heaven, one can see no merit in death and thus becomes terrified of it. Without a Hell, people would see no reason in binding themselves to their god. The church doesn't want that. Thus, Hell.
Without either, people become utterly lost in the abyss that is death. Without an idea of what happens when you die they become as lost as frightened little children. The concept of Heaven and Hell only exist to sooth our troubled minds.
