Does Andy use any verb on his guitars...

you play ride the lightning and master of puppets back to back, RTL sounds way more aggressive to me. I had this discussion with Mark Palmer the other week, he worked for MFN when those 2 albums came out. We both prefer RTL, song writing included. That was the first album I heard with fat gtrs, getting away from that thin 80's american thing that was going on.

I know what I am going to do tonight. I never really listen to them back to back.

that's precisely what i was trying to say, you hit the nail on the head.

Heathen also had the Lightning-guitarsound a bit, but they used Kirk's equipment as far as i know. I believe one of their guitarplayers married Kirk's sister.

Anyway, about the RTL vs MOP thing.......

I prefer Hell Awaits over Reign In Blood. It's more in the writing than in the sound.

hell awaits....geez don't get me started on that one. i LOVE the songs, i really enjoy them when listening to e.g. live versions or the dvd stuff. however, the incredibly SHITTY production on hell awaits totally ruins the album for me, i can't listen to any more than 1 song in a row.
reign in blood is a totally different story....the drums (esp. the kick) are rather bleh, but then again, that's late 80s. the guitars are cool, though. the definition of 80s thrash tone, no one came close in the bay area thrash thing.
