Just booked our next Mexico trip. Going back to Playa (4th year in a row) in February, for 15 nights and 16 days. Can't friggin wait. The beach and chicks look the same (from my original post last year). However, this time we'll be staying here:
$65 dollars a night (including taxes).

Playa is in the Yucatan. I love it because it's not Cancun or Cozumel. It's got a very Mexican feel to it, especially the further you move off 5th Ave (the main strip). You can go have a lunch, that features a whole chicken, for like $3. The food is cheap and amazing, the beaches are stunning, and the town has got such a cool vibe. Not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination - but my aunt just bought a place near Sarasota (I'm actually staying there right now until Dec. 29th) and just loves it. My parents are in the process of selling their home and may follow suit very shortly - if the stars align for it I would sell my home as well, put in as much money towards the home as I possibly can, stay with them and go back to school (for what I'm not certain yet) - find something I'm actually happy doing, get my own place and get whatever money I put into the house back at that time.
Anyway, if that all works out, I believe the flight from Tampa (closest major airport) to Cancun is a pretty easy one.

my parents have a house south of Sarasota, as do my aunt and uncle.
lived there for a year during 8th grade with the Future Convicts of America.

Though the best lunch, is definitely the $1 shrimp tacos. I've never seen anything like them in the U.S., but they are amazing. combined with a 24oz margarite for $3, you can;t go wrong.
