Drum overhead Mic position?

Tell me more about those Red 5 RV8s!!! I've been considering buying the RV10s for quite some time after seeing them rated just below C414s.
They're actually not bad sounding for the price, pretty warm. Used them on acoustic guitar, drum overheads and vocals with half decent results back in the day (have sold them now)
But I've found with all the Red 5 Mic's that they've got quite alot of self noise when compared to pretty much any decent mic from shure/sennheiser/audio technica etc.

I can post some clips in the next couple of days if you'd like?

If so, I'm interested as well :)
Heh, I'll have to show you the link on AIM or something. thelisteningsessions.com rated the RV8s as the second best LDC they tried on drums, right below the C414

Sure. I have the RVK7 package, and the mics sound amazing, especially when you consider it's 7 mics for like $300. I haven't noticed any noise either.

top tip... when needing to measure the distance from the snare, use drum sticks end to end to check.
i normally use 2 or 3
