Since we decided to reamp the tracks for our album through a real setup and not to use the tonelab anymore (some of you may remember the song I posted some time ago) and I bought lasses samples I thought I'd try to go for less digital sounding drums.
This is just a short snipped from one of the songs, it's really just about the sound of kick and snare.
I used SSD and Slate as Basis, and on lasses samples on top of them (about 50%)
toms and OH is SD2

Guitars are just Le456 for now, bass sounds quite cool imo but I gotta take a look at it again anyway when we have the final guitars...
strings are just thrown in quickly

hope I didnt make it too loud and pumping^^
tell me what you think dudes!

cheers Marco

sounds realy great man :) loved the guitars actually realy fits in
only thing the floor tom I can only hear the sub of the floor tom but not the floor tom itself... need more high/mids and less sub

what your mastering chain btw?

I agree sounds great. I'd just like to hear the toms cut a little more.

Fuck!

Sorry man, I never even saw this thread

I seriously can't say enough good stuff about the sound you have going on here :notworthy

The drums sound amazing and in the context of everything else they cut through cleanly yet still retain such a nice thumpy heaviness to them.

I can't wait until I start recording new Shadowdance tunes ... THIS is the sound I want to have for it

Fantastic job my friend

Holy fucking shit. I think this might be one of the best things I've heard here in a while. I'm a huge fan of your other song "Before the Fire", I can't wait to hear more!

The kick sounds flawless and the guitars totally kick ass.

Good job on the drums! :)

The guitars sound pretty dry but you did say it's a temporary solution.

I'm wondering if there's a bit too much high-end overall.

i like it man good job!!
thanks a lot Geo!

thanks man, guitars are just temporally, but I hope that I get them even better with reamping ;)
You're right about the floor tom(s), I think I'll raise the volume in SD2 and see if that helps enough.
Eriks (Dandelium) masteringchain helped me a lot, this is what he wrote at that time
I use in the mastering chain:

-Gclip with a setting of 0dB gain, 70% clipping (narrow), no softness; so the mastering compressor gets an homogeneous -6dB mix without huge snare peaks.
-Mastering compressor. Soft settings.
-Multiband compressor, evens the mix.
-Gclip again. 2dB gain, 100% clipping (wide), no softness; in order to raise levels and clip again everything for the limiter.
-Elephant. Master's punch +3 preset, everything default but the in gain, that's on +6dB.
I dont use a multibandcomp though, just normal comp and an EQ.
I only do pseudomastering though ;)
my clip is too loud too imo^^

That sounds epic, loads of power.
Loving it!

Wow that is loud as fuck.
That kick sounds really meaty.
what a great drum sound and it has epicness!
Thanks guys!
I'll see how the toms will cut with the final guitars, and maybe adjust them if they need it.
yeah it's loud...too loud
Someone far more skilled than me agreed to do the mastering for our album anyway :)
Thanks for the epicness also ;)

hey :) could you tell what cab Impulse did you used?
Sure man, its s-preshigh and guitarhack between straight -20

Fuck!

Carlos, thanks a lot dude
no worries, the thread isnt very old anyway haha
If you want some help when you record/mix some new tunes you know what to do I think ;)
but if you want THIS sound you'd have to programm the drums I think which wouldn't do justice to your brother haha

Thanks a heap buddy, I really appreciate it!
I also really hope that I can get a lot of stuff done (vocals, strings and reamping) throughout the next 2-3 weeks to have another more or less finished song to post within september!

Good job on the drums! :)

Yeah, I didn't even but reverb on the guitars to save some CPU ^^
about the high end: well, I did a very quick approach mixing this, som with new guitar ects theres gonna be the time to adjust this and so on...this was really only about the drums =)

I just want to thank you guys again for checking it out, I'm glad I'm not the only one liking the drums : )
Hope I didn't forget to answer any questions, it's 9:30AM around here and I just returned home from a birthdayparty about 2 hours ago (went there right after posting this). gotta get some sleep now and get sober.you guys rock!

Sounds killer dude. I'd drop some highend from that kick drum though.

Details on the snare?
Thanks Morgan, I boosted some high end on the kick, so I can still go easy with it if it pops out too much in the final mix...gonna see how it blends with the final guitars

Snares are Slate Custom, LSD Drums InFection & SD2 MF 5x14 Pearl free Floating maple

yeah im really digging the snare too, the kick im so so on, not enough lows in it for my taste.
i still have some low end left that can be added it again (droped out some low end with an eq), but I dont want to give it too much since theres always a lot of kickdrum action going on on our songs and I dont want the low end to be overpowered...maybe try out a multinbandcomp when its in the final stage

now do you mean a multiband on the master or on the kick/buss? because I've actually been wondering how to go about doing this, I've tried compressing the lows and raising the gain to give a song some more steady low end but it just didn't work out.

No I ment a multibandcomp on the kick. for me it works out quite good to tame the low end on the kick, but I dont want to use that much because theres too much kick going on most of the time...maybe I'll try it out with some automation to give it more punch in the slower parts.
I dont use multibandcomp on the master bus

Mago!

really nice sounding preview dude, and nice music too!!

I like a lot the sound of the kick/snare, is just that I´m looking for hahaha. I will to try some day to catch the tone!

Good job man!

/Tris.

Thanks a lot Bro, glad you like it!
