DT+SX shows setlist

I hated Kevin Moore's lead tone. It wasn't cutting enough for a lead tone. If there's one thing I love, it's a good, full Saw Lead sound, kinda like Rudess's Synthesizers.com synth that he had on the Octavarium tour. Moore had alot of better patches, but as far as Leads goes, Rudess's owns Moore's.

No matter what though, Pinella's lead tones are the shit. Nothing beats Roland's late Analog Synths. I've always wanted to use a JP-8000, but I get the feeling that the SH-201 pretty much has everything that the JP has and then some. I wouldn't be surprised at least.

:lol::lol:

35 minutes ? That sucks and is so wrong. I'd love to see 2 hours of specific no name band complete with so called wankery, but only 35 minutes for the openers ?

Ill agree with the point about Symphony X not even giving long set for us here in the States when they were the primary, that was a bit BS too but a great show just the same... except once again Im hearing about a soundman that needs to be removed, taken outside and beaten with a "sub" cabinet just long enough so that he hates "sub" cabinets.... LOL

The stage set up mentioned is common and typical.

Im surprised Symphony X cant headline in Europe, with the neo classical heavy thing and all. Whats up with that ? Seems this DT/SX hookup is not going to be a positive thing, when it could, in fact be an awsome thing. Especially if DT fans got to hear more of SX's older more varied progressive music.

WHAT BULLSHIT !

Well for one thing, Symphony X should play a longer set in their own shows as well. I mean come on, Accolades I, II, and Through the Looking Glass!!

Now thats a really strange match ? I'd like to see it but dont know about DTs diverse audience ?

I just cant believe this shit. I mean Kamelot played for at least two hours and between the three, wait, FOUR other opening acts there must have been nearly two hours of music. What bullshit, I wish I could get them on the phone.... "come on dudes, cut your brothers some slack". Probably more of a management issue than the musicians. Maybe the next person will actually time it, maybe its longer than it seems.

Symphony X could be playing for an hour, but DT needs the extra 25 minutes added to their setup time so Petrucci can have his mandatory soloing boxes perfectly aligned parallel with the front of the stage.

Really, I don't know how much good this spot opening DT did for Symph. Maybe some, but I would still have preferred a show where Dream Theater would have opened for Symphony X. And I'm dead fucking serious about this. It's really just unfair. Symphony X is a class A band and they play for 35 mins everywhere in their European toour. That really sucks. Really, really, really sucks. And I can't understand how on anohter forum there were people saying stuff like "Yeah, that Symphony X really sucked, more than 35 mins would have killed me. but DT was great. I loved the synth solo's and blaah blaah". I couldn't help being REALLY pissed off. THE SYNTH SOLO'S WERE HORRIBLE for a start.

I want to see Symphony X to get to that position when they can play 3 hours of what the fucking ever they want. That would be just... dreaming, but maybe some day. As well I might hope that life would turn out fair some day.

SX a Class A band? Sorry, but no. If we're speaking in terms of quality then good for you that you think that way...there are obviously going to be differing opinions on that though. If we're speaking in terms of status, ability to draw a crowd, etc....then no way. It's been said a million times already, but there's no injustice here. DT is the more popular band and they aren't gaining anything from having SX open other than the chance to be able to tour with friends. SX, on the other hand is indeed benefiting from the tour. You're pissed because Dream Theater fans didn't enjoy SX's set but DID enjoy Rudess' synth solos? I'm going to fill you in on a secret that just may shock you:

Not all Dream Theater fans are Symphony X fans and, as you've proven, the opposite is also true. The two fanbases often overlap but not all the time.

I don't remember nearly this much bitching back in '04 when SX opened for Queensryche here in the states and only played 35 minute sets.

Yeah, I know I'm just a bit too pissed. But yeah, I meant class A band in terms of quality, popularity is a different thing. And the truth is that I also like Dream Theater, believe it or not. Their show was good, but it missed that final something. Even with the Octavarium outro, it felt anti-climatic.

I'm still happy I was there. I learned a few things and got a Symph X shirt! :kickass:

And maybe Symphony X have their chance after the next CD?

well, things certainly do look like they are only getting better for the band. Realistically I don't see them reaching DT's level of popularity or even very close to be honest, but things DO only seem to be getting better which is definitely a good thing.

Paradise Lost sold pretty well, didn't it? And having a video definetly makes it seem like things are going for better.

It seems so strange that Symphony X isn't really known that well anywhere. Maybe the fact that me and all my friends know it made me forget that they're not really super popular.

Maybe so, but this was SX's third gig ever in Finland (they had 2 gigs with Stratovarius 5 years ago), so of course people were excited about this gig. And when they actually played only for 30 minutes - intro was Oculus Ex Inferni from tape - you can't blame people being a bit disappointed, can you?

Well, it's gone now. Hope they'll do some headlining or festival shows next year. :headbang:

my opinion on this is:

It is a Dream Theater tour, therefore can have whoever they want opening for them. They chose SX and SX accepted. Therefore anyone going is going to see DT and SX happens to be the opening band. If you want SX, go see a SX headlining gig. However, I'd rather see SX as the opener than some other band. So SX is really just a bonus...

This is why I want a DT tour of Australia. And then I want an SX tour completely separate.

The thing is that Symphony X has never had a headline gig in Finland. They opened twice for Stratovarius a few years backwards and then this gig (I wasn't there). And that's it. Maybe some day.

The gig was good, but it could have been better. But it's good promo for Symph X so I'm happy about that.

Just remember that it was a while before they even played here, in their home country. I agree things are getting better, there are certain non-band aspects that need lots of improvement though (SMHFO!) The guys are touring their asses off, and that in itself is a good thing.
