Dynazty: Renatus is my most played disc of the year

I agree that Renatus is a completely amazing album, but how the hell did they come up with this after their previous standard 80's hair metal releases? Did aliens take over their bodies or did they sign a contract with Satan?

They had already begun to switch to a heavier sound on some songs in the previous album "Sultans Of Sin". But the switch was total for Renatus.

Come Alive from "Sultans Of Sin"

Yup. I have to agree with Guillaume here to some extent. There were a couple of songs on 'SoS' that would have been at home on 'Renatus'. However, as a long time fan, it was still quite the shock to the system. I queued up the disc expecting Bon Jovi meets Van Halen and...POW! As in POW-er metal!

I hope they have enough time to play more than just Renatus. I don't wanna hate on the album but I wanna hear Sultans of Sin material as well.

The record did not floor me on first listen. However, by about the 3rd spin I was hooked.

I have to say I thought it was pretty fucking awesome on first listen. It's hands down my top disc of the year. It's still going strong too .. listen to it on a near daily basis. I went back and checked out a couple of their previous tracks ... decent, but not in the same league as the Renatus material. It's awesome that they will be playing that album in it's entirely .. stoked. Long ass wait though.

I wonder if anyone here knows that George Egg does not play double kick drums. He uses one bass drum, and utilizes a floor tom to get that double kick sound. Its a very unique, and bad ass technique.

My first exposure to this band was on the Metal Madman's radio show. Hell, he's been pimping them for several years now. After the announcement I went as far as to ask him if he had something to do with getting them booked for ProgPower! His response, I was as surprised as everyone else!

Glenn, I like the fact that you've been booking at least one through and through hard rock band for several lineups now...great stuff! :headbang:

Thanks to this post, Renatus has not stopped playing for a week. Probably now my AOTY.

I even tried to get my wife to name our new kitten "Starlight", since that was playing on the way to adopt her. No go. I had to settle for Mercy, because my wife was wearing her Welcome To Mercy Falls shirt that day.

Brian... have you heard Renatus? These guys no longer qualify as "Hard Rock".

Yeah. He clearly hasn't heard it. Hard rock it ain't. :)

...MeTuLHeD, I'm glad you're keeping such a close eye on what I'm doing. Let me know if I'm doing anything that needs improvement!

Greg, I've heard a few cuts via YouTube, etc., but not the entire CD. I actually mention that in your top 5 post. I realize that Dynazty isn't hard rock any longer...but I believe they started out as a hard rock band. They do kicks some ass and look forward to buying a copy of it. :kickass: They're on my "to buy" list, among others.

Indeed they were. I recently went back in their catalog and checked out Sultans of Sin. Clearly Hard Rock. I need to spend more time with it.

Yes. It is definitely badass. It would be a shame if we didn't get to see any tunes from it.
