Damn...first off. I had to deal with Cubs and Bears traffic. Once getting out of the city I flew there. Which was too bad since I wanted to come late.
I met Rachel (shadowlioness) and Saladbar when I moved to the front area.
I then finally got to meet Orbweaver. Didnt get to talk to long because they actually were moving along pretty fast between sets...thank God!

I walked in when 12th Gate was finishing up thier set. They didnt have the guy from Disturbed singing anymore at least.

I kinda wanted to check out Echoes Into Eternity. I heard good and bad things about them. basically....they sucked. This is a band that got signed because the singer either worked in porn or at Hooters. The singer and her twins made the band. Nothing worked for these guys. The singers voice doesnt go with the music, nothing is catchy at all. They are a complete mess. At least they had a short set.

Light This Shitty were up next. Dear God...just when I thought the Agonist were crap, this band is worse. The singer was ultra cute though. basically they were bad mallcore with Arch Enemy screaming vocals. Orbweaver can attest to this....there were these 3 Hot Topic / Rich Yuppie girls trying to rock out to them and these two kind crusty guys who thought this band was the second coming of Christ. I love when NO ONE is getting into a band and you always have 2 guys go nuts and knocking into everyone. Best part is that once this train wreck of a band was done...those losers left the front.
One thing I will say is that nothing brings strangers together at a show than all having to sit through a shitty band together. it is like the stories you hear about Holocaust Surviors or people who were in a huge accident together...you just kind of bond because you all had a simular crisis. Light This Shitty was our 9/11, Holocaust, and Veitnam all in one. I did laugh when Orbweavers freind with the high pitch voice was heckling them. probs to her for that. It is nice to see band get heckled when they deserve it.

Unfortunatly the shit bands didnt stop here. Now I had to sit though Into Eternity. It was refreshing to hear Orbweavers boyfriend agree with my thoughts about how much they suck. There are so many things to say about this crap band. I love how the singer snuck out behind the little display so he could run out when the song kicked in....after we just saw him setting up and walking behind the banner. Then it was great to see zero crowd response everytime they mentioned that had videos on MTV's Headbangers Ball. Thank God they didnt play too long.

Finally after a long set up...Edguy were up. First off...the crowd grew all the sudden. There had to be at least 400 to 500 people there for them...maybe more because when I was leaving the whole main floor was filled up. Edguy really need to work on thier set list...they really dont have a clue how to make one that really packs a punch...both times they just kinda just played songs at random without any buildup. as far as I can remember...

Catch of The Century
Sacrifice
Babylon
The Trooper (well the first minute)
***then audience sing along game***
Lavatory Love machine
Tears of a Mandrake
Vain Glory Opera
***drum solo**** WHY??????
Superhero
Same Me
Mysteria
***end of set****
Encore
Avanatasia --- finally got to hear it live.
King of Fools

it was a great set but they played lots of the filler songs from the new disc.
where was....
Land of the Miracle
Down to the devil
Spooks in the Attic
All the Clowns
Jerusalem
Wake up the king

Edguy have zero pacing in thier set. No build up. With so many great songs they should be pros at picking out the best songs. Still a great night for them. They seemed shocked with the great crowd response. Everyone was totally into it and singing along. I had a great spot upfront too. The sound was great, you could hear everything...usually when I am upfront the vocals are hard to hear sometimes...not tonight. The best part was that there were no assholes in the crowd really. No one pushing and basically being annoying.

I dont know who put this tour package together...but one question...what the fuck where you thinking having Light This SHitty on this bill. I know Susperia cancelled but there are a zillion other bands that could fit this bill better.

side notes to the show....

- the singer for Into Eternity...his high pitch yells are really annoying.
- anyone else so that super hot chick that had tattoos from the feet up?
damn...she was smoking hot!
- It only took me 40 minutes to get home and I got a spot right away. I have hopes for the Finntroll show now at least.
- I saw the Powerfest dates up on the listing...now lets get some band announcements going.
- Edguy claim to be coming back within 12 months...hopefully with a better tour package and some better songs this time around.

anyone else want to add to this???? It was nice to see everyone again. Thanks to Rachel for noticing my hair:)

yeah, it was very disjointed and didnt flow very well at all. They cut off a few songs to I think. Orbweaver said she saw Fallen Angels on it but Tobias said near the end they were running out of time....this is why I hate 5 band shows.

I will add that it sounds like I didn't miss much.

All I have to say is Edguy not playing "Land of the Miracle" would be like going to see Slayer and not hearing "Angel of Death"

No, you missed a great set by Edguy. They were tight and played great. I loved when Toby said that they are doing a cover song off a new British metal act. Then the Iron Maiden cover came and after he was like, maybe one day this new young band will make it over to the states to play.

It was great to see Edguy with a crazy crowd. last time at the HOB everyone just stood there not singing along or moving even.

The song Lavatory Love Machine makes me want to hurl.

I wish they would go back to being more epic, and leave the humor to Helloween.

Seems like they didn't play a lot of Rocket Ride.

I am sure they played well. They are a great live band indeed.

they played 4 songs of that disc....3 too many for my taste. I think I did read that the next disc is going to go back to the epic stuff again. I recommend getting the Avantasia stuff then if you miss the epic Edguy stuff.

I had the second Avantasia disc at one point.
I am pretty sure it has since been traded though.

I will try to catch them on their next tour.
Hopefully they will put together a better touring package.

Sidenote - Bob, what was their to notice about your hair? The fact you had the same haircut since you were three???

Nah, my hair is the shortest now it has ever been too actually.

Do they call you LL Cool B? (Ladies Love Cool Bob)

When are you going to start dragging Amber to shows?
For fucks sake, you went with her to see that White Stripes side project.

Joke avatars never go over well, as they are too small.
This was one Avatar I used a while back, that I don't think many people got.......

I debated about going to this show up until 3PM yesterday. I was tired as all hell but knew that a lot of folks were gonna be there. Plus, I didn't want to miss Twelfth Gate and I was willing to give Edguy a shot as I went into this show really not being a fan.

I zipped to the Pearl Room and walked in about 5:40. There already was a crowd bigger than what was at the Firewind show. Twelfth Gate put on a good set despite me not being able to hear their other guitar player Jim. Shit happens.

I had seen Echoes Into Eternity on the Symphony X tour and wasn't impressed then so I wasn't expecting to be impressed this time. My first comment was "Holy Bewbies!", so Bob, you nailed it on the head. This band should rename themselves Echoes Into Breastesses or something, because they don't have much else to offer. Not that the chick has a bad voice, it just doesn't fit.

Light This City was next, and honestly, I didn't realise that they had gotten a replacement for Susperia. When I looked at the ticketbastard site to see how much I was gonna have to shell out at the door, they still had Susperia listed. :Smug: I didn't think they were terrible, but I do agree that they were a poor choice for this show. I heard some old school In Flames in their tunes and the chick was truly brutal, but yes, if you aren't into that kind of thing then you are gonna be turned off immediately. They were at least entertaining to watch.

I'd seen Into Eternity at Gigantour and at that time I could take them or leave them. I can appreciate the wacky range that the vocalist has, but they just aren't my thing. I dunno.

Finally Edguy came on. Like I said, I was not a fan. I had a friend who kind of walked me through the "Edguy ropes" explaining songs and even getting me to sing along during the crowd participation parts. Thanks to him for that. I needed someone to kick my ass because I literally could have dropped at that point, I was that tired. I said early on in their set that I thought they were a better live band than on disc and the banter between songs I found to be absolutely amusing. I walked away having had a good time and a better light shed on Edguy. I just may see this band again in the future.

It was good to see a lot of folks and Bob, you're welcome for the comment on your hair!:)

Now if y'all will excuse me, I am paying dearly at work today for taking Friday off. Ugh.

I liked Echos of Eternity, but the singer does need more power to her voice. At least this time she ditched the vibrato that was so painfully obvious during their set before Symphony X. And yes, her boobs are VERY apparent. You could use them as a drink shelf.

The hardcore kiddies during Light This City were VERY annoying. One of the three girls behind me was even stupid enough to carry her gianormous pink Louis Vitton purse in with her. Fortunately, none of those kids jostled or bumped into me all that much. I think I scared them when I forcibly took my spot back from them. I guess during Edguy's set there was some dude who was mere inches away from bashing me in the head with his elbow, but he never did, so I never noticed. My boyfriend was the one who told me about it. I guess he was getting pissed off at how close this guy was to hitting me.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself during Edguy's set. I got two guitar picks, but gave one to a friend since it was her birthday. Unfortunately, it was the pretty one (all blue and silver and awesome.) But hey, at least I got a pick! I almost never catch stuff like that at concerts. I also caught Tobi before Edguy's set when I went up to use the restroom. Some fan had him cornered in much the same manner as the last time I met Tobi, but I did manage to get a hug in between the other fan's "blah, blah, blah!"

And Diabolik is much more mild-mannered in person. He has fuzzy eyebrows. :D

That's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time, and it's so true!

You are totally correct about Edguy, I honestly don't think they will ever top their performance from Progpower III, having seen that any Edguy show I do miss I will not be that bent out of shape over knowing they'll never top that set.

I think everyone is more mild-mannered in person.

I have known Bob for a very long time.
He has always been extremely opinionated.
To know him is to love him (or is it hate him???)

He's a good cat. Too bad he doesn't drink though.
Might loosen him up a bit! Ha!

Hey, us non-drinkers (or in my case, occasional partakers in something alcoholic and it's rarely more than one drink) are the coolest people in the world.

In fact, I'm so cool I managed to trip up the stairs on the way to the bathroom at the Pearl Room and bruise up my left leg. The one person that saw me and said anything recieved a sarcastic "I'm graceful!" in response. All this without the aid of alcohol. I rock. :p

And I'm not more mild-mannered in person. I'm a loud-mouth no matter what medium. :D

ha....you think that fall up stairs is bad. At work last year I was opening a box and was pulling my arms towards myself to tear it open and my hand broke loose and I punched my self in the face very hard. Broke open a little part of my lip actually.

I am very loud mouthed when i am around people I know well. Just yesterday I came back to work after being off a few days and everyone was telling me how quiet it was and no one was pranking anyone. Within 30 minutes of me being at work I had everyone already on edge from pranks and my rants and finger pointing.
