Edmonton show cancelled.. thanks a lot, guys

I also am VERY upset that the OPETH show was cancelled, and I'm even more upset that I was told it would be re-scheduled for 2 days later - then that was cancelled too! It was like getting my hopes up twice only to let me down. I think it is the bands fault, for not making sure Lopez was going to be okay for the first stop on the tour. It wasn't like he got food poisoning or something, he was sent home to see his therapist. What makes me even more upset, is the fact that I was not informed that the rest of the band members were still going to show up - just to hang out. I would have loved to meet the band! Well, now I have to waste a bunch of gas money as well, to drive all the way to and from the venue to get my refund. almost not worth it.

Like I said in the thread talking about the original delay. These things happen its no one's fault. The people hurt by it have every right to be upset, or dissapointed. But being dissapointed gives no one the right to start flame wars. I opened the thread hoping it would be a discussion of civility and of fans discussing their dissapointement. Not to read about people insulting each other etc. Decorem in these situations often shows your dissapointment better than flaming the band, yelling about not having information, or flaming other people. Rather than go into a rant about internet decorum I will recommend you to a wonderful little site that will do it for me: http://www.gothicmissmanners.com/sep02.html look at the second half of the column.

Having got that off my chest:

I was dissapointed about their cancellation as I was looking forward to seeing Opeth live but I am also rather concerned. Has there been any official news or even rumours about the cancellation? I heard that the drummer was sick and was wondering how serious it was, and hoping, of course that it wasn't serious.

In any case. It is indeed very dissapointing that they weren't able to make it. But it does not diminish the worth of the band, the quality of their music or their dedication to their work. I, as a musician, have been unable to attend concerts before because of last minute problems. If there wasn't a good reason they wouldn't have cancelled and it is because of this that I am slightly concerned. I hope that they will come back some time in the future somewhere close enough for me to go to see them and, while I will be dissapointed if they don't, I will still have their music as I have the music of so many other bands I have not and most likely will never see live.

I wish luck to Opeth and hope that their reason for cancelling isn't too serious.

I'm sorry I only just went back to read some of the other comments as I was getting frustrated...see above post

I've been rather busy the past few days and haven't checked any of the news.

Lopez had a nervous breakdown?
Is there any news on how he's doing now?

Well enough to play the seattle show, Lia. :P

Anyhow, I was quite disappointed with the edmonton show being cancelled, but I guess that's the breaks. I *do* wonder if Opeth would do something like looping back to Edmonton/Calgary after the US leg of the tour is over, or something like that.

I'm glad SOMEONE finally bought it up. The only think I want to say in all of this, is that do most of you folk realise that as the tour was winding up towards the end of last year, when things got 'bad' Opeth could have just as easily have packed up and not comeb back till things were 'right' again (and as this would most likely not occur until they'd all had a break we wouldn't be seeing them again until the new album was recorded, so that would presumably be end of 2004/start of 2005).

Wherever Opeth have 'put a foot wrong' (not intentionally) they have made all efforts to compensate for their 'error', but if they have to 'push' things to get back on the road and finish the tour of course there's a higher chance of things going pear-shaped.

With all the whinging going on, I'd be more interested in what people would have said if they'd pulled the plug on the tour at the end of last year (though you can bet they would have done so in order to do the missed legs of the tour 'properly').

That said, I'm still more than a little (rightly) miffed about what I believe to be a small amount of 'missinformation' leading up to the postponement of last years Aussie leg of the D2 tour... oh well. *Sigh*
