I just installed an EMG 81 in the bridge, and a 85 in the neck of my gibson SG. Now the problem i have is that when i toggle between pickups with the pickup selector, I get a loud popping sound. anyone have any ideas how to correct this?

Sounds a bit like a grounding problem. The things that come to mind:

1) Make sure everything is wired up correctly. All the control components should be grounded to the jack (a ground wire should run between the pot covers, the selector cover and finally to the minus side of the jack). Except the bridge ground wire, which should not be connected to anything (make sure to insulate it).

2) Make sure the cable is pushed all the way in. The EMG jack is a stereo jack, and these can be very tight sometimes. There should be two "clicks" as you push the cable into the jack.
