Enchant and Saga...

MRNOT, good choice of words " I mean, the vehemence that "they" display toward certain bands (that actually *DID* have talent), eschewing their impact as musicians for the celebration of their participation in the only atmoshpere available to rock musicians within that decade, is appalling. "

Dude - no offense....but that video and song freaked the HELL out of me.

House of 1000 Corpses was my top scary moment, but you've topped that...

Again, no offense, but that's NOT singing....sounded liked a heavier Sepultura, or Gwar....

Rock on, dude.....:headbang:

Of course, now that you've given me a reason to more closely inspect my diatribe, that phrasing does not actually convey the intended meaning.. A more appropriate arrangement would have been "((Their obvious zeal at deriding) or (the (vigor/zeal) with which they deride)) certain bands.." Yeah.. That's much more accurate.

One thing people need to know about SAGA, they play progressive POP. Its not necessarily pure prog, though they have a few examples of that, such as 'Don't Be Late'. They play catchy rock songs that just happen to have a lot of guitar and keyboard solos, including some progressive jams. There is some terrific playing going on with nearly every album of theirs. And thy could rock hard now and again. Just listen to the last couple minutes of 'Pitchman', that ending is very intense. Albums 2 through 5 are Saga at their best, though they certainly put out many strong songs over the years. I would say every album since 85 has had its share of clunkers, but they each have 4 or 5 very strong songs. 'House of Cards' and 'Full Circle' were recent albums that came close to the classic era sound. Marathon seemed to bore me a bit, though I admit to not listyening to it much, I will have to re-visit that album soon.

Progressive pop? Hmmmm.....sounds like a great way to describe another of my faves, LOL....the much maligned and under-appreciated Jellyfish!! :)

Cheers!!
Hmmm, that's odd...progressive pop is how I usually describe A.C.T, a band which is often likened to Jellyfish (although I have never heard any of their music) :headbang:

Maybe I'm just too old school in my tastes, but I really didn't like the Vehemence stuff that I downloaded. Too much screaming and no discernible musicianship or songwriting. To put it bluntly, I could stick a microphone up my dog's hoo-hah, crank up the distortion, and come up with a better sound than this. The vid wasn't all that scary or disturbing to me either. Iron Maiden did this sort of thing 20+ years ago and was much better at it. I guess you could say that it was good for whatever they spent to produce it. If they're making a living at this, good for them, but I'd sooner make a coffee table out of my guitar than play this sort of garbage. Sorry if my post offends anyone, especially the guy from Vehemence, but I gotta be real and tell it like it is.

LOL, I hear ya, Paul! Odd is right! I will snag a couple of A.C.T. CD's from the shelf today and take a listen....I never thought of them as progressive pop before, nor that they sounded like Jellyfish....I have never heard ANYONE who sounds like Jellyfish...hmmmm, that sounds familiar.....jut like I have never heard ANYONE that sounds like Enchant either!!!

Cheers!

I could never really get into Saga to much on vinyl or cd, but live they had a really cool vibe and the audience were always so much into the music. Ian has always been a underatted guitar player. The last time I saw them was about two years ago and I was still really impressed with Ian's guitar work. They used to also have a really great drummer in the early days

See what I have to put up with?!? I will soon have to seek professional help to deal with the constant attack of HGTV programming...:Spin:

dt
Professional help? OK, no problem....let me call your favorite decorating pro...DEBBIE TRAVIS!!!!

Actually....you have to constantly watch HGTV....it's the only way to convince you that Alton Brown and Paul James are really the same person, on the same show, just on two different channels...oh, that's right, it really is the same company....

Ah well, if I have to deal with the constant threat of sea cucumbers, you're just going to have to deal with new directions in tile and lighting design for unilluminated... :)

Seems fair to me....after all, my treasured Adam Ant CD's need to share a shelf with the likes of Antithesis....well, then...!!!!!

:D

PS - I won't tell anyone about the skid steer!!!! :)

I'd like to see Debbie decorate the interior of a working wood chipper...

Hmm, let's see...Alton Brown is a scientist, demonstrating the science of food and was profiled in last month's Wired magazine. Paul James runs away from cartoon bees and mows lawns. Yeah, it's the same show...NOT!

Ah well, if I have to deal with the constant threat of sea cucumbers, you're just going to have to deal with new directions in tile and lighting design for unilluminated... :)
Well, seeing as how I educate you about music and movies and TV shows and many other things, I suppose I can occasionally learn new uses for a hammer...

Seems fair to me....after all, my treasured Adam Ant CD's need to share a shelf with the likes of Antithesis....well, then...!!!!!
Your CD collection was quickly updated when godly bands like Opeth and Front Line Assembly took their rightful place on the shelf. The CDC will be here next week to properly contain and dispose of your culture club CDs...plus, I wonder where all the Enchant and Symphony X and Vanden Plas and Spock's Beard and so many other CDs came from?

:D

PS - I won't tell anyone about the skid steer!!!! :)
SKID STEERS OWN!!!! Destruction of stuff is always entertaining...
