Engl owners-question

Firstly, I'm not your "Brah", and secondly yes I am aware of Multi-quote, since I used it to quote you in the first place. The double post above was a mistake.

Now back on topic, I think ENGL's are one of very few amps I've played where I've felt like I didn't need the TS to tighten it up and add some crunch to the tone. I've always felt like Mesa's needed a boost, but then I've not had too much time to test that theory out. I know my Triple XXX for sure needs a boost, unless you're only doing medium gain rock materal with it.

And for the people who don't quite realize, I don't mean boost as in throw more gain through the amp, I mean to use the TS to tighten the low end up.

Nice riff dude, sounds like a better, less videogame like version of Dragonforce (meant in a good way, please don't take offense!). Is Test A the one with the OD808?
 
I have an Engl thunder top and use a tubescreamer in front. It realy brings the amp to the next level.
The tubescreamer is called Excalibur (it´s piece by piece build after the original Ibanez ts08 or ts09, dont realy know)
the combi sounds fantastic. The TS gives the Thunder the mid-punch you need for lower gain HC/metalcore riffing (the killswitch engage, bullet for my valentine, parkway drive sound)

perfectly valid point but I myself love my 5150, it is just a different tone, in fact I do think a dual rec is somewhat superior because it is more versatile, not because the tone itself is "better". I love both amps!

Thanks man no offense taken well test A is straight into the amp and Test b is boosted with the 808 i usually have a eq pedal in the loop also but for this exercise i left it out. The unboosted sound is smother i think but kinda more sterile sounding. The boost seems to give it more crunch/bark which i like but as Djabthrash said its not a huge difference. oh and i forgot to mention tracks are of course completly raw no post processing.
 
On the Powerball, do any of you use the F.X. loop? Or, do you guys use TS/OD pedals? I got the Z-5 custom foot switch, accompanied with a NS-2 pedal hooked through ENGL. I got an Ibanez TS9, and a DBX graphic eq for the Peavy 5150, haven't tried any TS/OD pedals on the ENGL. The Peavy is running though a Marshall 1960AX, and the powerball is running through a Mesa Over sized 4x12. The Engl sound damn good without any pedals, however, I am still interested in testing different pedals/rack gear on the Engl....cause I am a tones chaser....and I need the best possible tones ever!:heh:
 
I use an Ibanez TS9DX in with an Engl Savage 120. It took me a lot of time to find a setting that worked for me (I even posted here about it in the beginning when I did not succeed). Just putting the TS in front of the Savage did not do the trick.
 
My TS setting are about (from 0 to 10): Drive 0, Level 6, Tone 9. Also, I use it in the "+" mode.
Without the TS I use(d) the Savage's fourth channel (hi-gain). With the TS I use the second with lots of gain and pre-amp volume.
I did not use the TS for any "drive" but somehow the fourth channel just did not work with it. It added some kind of weird noise with every stroke which was simply untolerable and even more annoying when my noise gate (set up really tight) cut in. Not so with the second channel! As simple as it is it took me some time to find out. I tried to make it work in the fourth channel just to make it sound a little more smooth and "louder" but for me there was no way to make it happen.

OT: I think there are not that many users here using the TS9DX. I wonder if there is anyone else being into the "+" mode?
