Recently somebody posted their comments on Enslaved's new album here. They went a little overboard and called it "the best thing ever" or something like that....BUT...I do want to say thanks to whoever it was. I went and bought this yesterday and it is fucking awesome!!! To that end....anybody who hasn't heard it might want to give it a listen. It's one hell of a good record.

Incidentally....the new Zeppelin live stuff is great too.....DVD/CD...all that.

OH, and Metalblade records has an MP3 up for John Arch's (ex-Fates Warning) first album in 15 years....and it's fucking fantastic. Old schooler types might want to go give it a listen.....

just some heads up if anyone is bored today....

:Spin: Haha, yeah, I might've sounded a little over enthusiastic, but I just don't hear much quality metal anymore. I've been on a serious prog kick, but Enslaved have reconfirmed my faith in metal. Glad you like the album!

\m/

Well, actually I didn't mean to be critical there. It's as good a choice for best metal album. It really strikes me right off as groundbreaking etc.

Anyway, are the other Enslaved albums that good? Oh, also, I listened to a bit of the new Darkthrone and dug that too....

It's what you might call atmostpheric/progressive/death....I guess. I think most Opeth fans would dig the shit out of 'em. Go to The End records website and you can listen to a song from the new album. It's a pretty varied album though, so don't make up your mind right away. The MP3, and the strength of Till Fjalls suggestion convinced me to get it.....I ain't sorry. Pretty fucking heavy....pretty fucking inventive. Really, they are not altogether unlike Opeth at all.....

How The West Was Won? The extended songs(25 minutes for Dazed and Confused, theres two more also) really intrested me.

Yeah....it's great. The sound is top notch. I think it's the coolest "vault" thing released since Eddie's Archive. Robert's voice is a lot better sounding then on "The Song Remains the Same"....The DVD is even better though. 5 hours (literally) of shows; early to late 70's.
There are some free samples at Zep's homepage if you wanna hear 'em.

Damn, sounds good. I saw the 3 CD set for 18 dollars at Wal-Mart, I almost bought it. I'll check into it a bit more probably.

Uh, not to stray the conversation, but I hav to wonder why this topic was moved to the chat/off topic forum? Or did I mistakenly come to the conclusion that this thread was about music? o_O

Hehe, it just makes me wonder why a mod would bother...After all, the link even remains on the original forum it was posted in. Bah...Bored and curious...

hmm i don't think Enslaved is a racist band at all.. their music are more focused on Viking mythology than superiority of races or anything like that.

I'm getting into Enslaved and this album as well, although I still perfer Eld, I'm trying to dig deeper into this one.

Also, what I've heard of the Zeppelin live album sounds awesome. :D

Is Enslaved a rascist band?

The reason I ask this is because they have weird symbols that they use and some of them seem a bit nazi-ish. Like the S in the Frost album.

What?!

I really don't want to be an asshole, and you are obviously new to this kind of music. but FUCK you're an IDIOT. jesus..

They're called RUNES.

And if they were a racist band, a National socialist band, or a christian band I'd still love them.

If you were referring to my extensive post, you are welcome. And eys, I think the album, and this band ARE that good.

ok.. I just spent 30 minutes writing an essay on this bands history. Then i pasted something in.. and then hit backspace. But hitting backspace makes me go back, and I lost the entire post. Im actually rather devistated now.

But similar album summaries can be seen at www.ssmt-review.com

in summarry, every enlsaved album is completely unique. and every album is a work of genius. Get them all.

Enslaved aren't really like Opeth at all. I would compare them to Emperor... I guess... but totally different. They are a sort of progressive viking metal, especially since Mardraum: Beyond the Within came out. The albums before were more traditional viking metal.

By far their best album is also their most progressive, it's called Monumension. Great fucking album, wicked blackened prog atmosphere. There are some mellow songs that are very twistedly awesome.

Also, to the guy that said this album was mediocre and inconsistent and then he insulted Agalloch: YOU ARE DEAF.
