Every man has his price, whats yours?

I paid $500 for Opeth.. I don't know how much really, I would have found out had I of still been up north when Symphony X came to Australia (probably up to $1000 - but that's ONLY for them), but now that I moved I shall never know..

I've flown to melb from perth for megadeth, and then to sydney for them again on the gigantour a year later. Both trips cost quite a bit (flights, accomidation and tickets would have been over $500 plus another 500 or so on booze and food for the 3 or 4 days we were there) but i dont really see that as me spending all the money on megadeth, more an awesome trip that included a gig that i wouldnt have been able to see otherwise.

I suppose it's all inclusive, i drove from bris to sydney to see vanishing point& edguy. The ticket & fuel i suppose would have come up to $300, and then there is accomadation. If they hadn't been playing i would have had no reason to go down there, so for sure travel and accomadation has to be taken into account, so i'll rise my price to $800

^ you definately get spoiled more in the states when it comes to bands.. how much did you pay all up for the last SymX tho, tix to NYC etc.. it would have been a bit of money for the whole trip..

I came really close to booking a flight over to see SX in Atlanta...

* The venue I'm seeing them at here has a capacity of just over 3000 people. It's gonna be way less intimate than over in the states and I see there being less of a chance of meeting them.

* They're only opening for DT here so I'll get to hear fewer songs (and of course they wont play The Odyssey).

So, I figured I'd jump on a plane, go see my bro (haven't seen in a long time), hire a car and trundle on down to Atlanta for the show. I could do with some sunshine (it's been raining so hard for so long everything is flooded around here)...but it'll cost me about £1200. That's a fuck load of money I really don't have.

If I had it, I'd pay the £1200.

And thats pounds which is about $3000 oz dollars, your a true fan:kickass:

Seems like Germany is El Dorado, Xanadu and Shangri-La all rolled into one compared to Australia as far as the availability of bands is concerned, and thus my reports aren't as spectacular. Hats off to anyone willing to pay 500 $ for a concert trip! :)
The most expensive of my "favourite bands" was Rush with just under 50 € plus travel costs (really not that much), and rightfully so. I'll get to see them for the second time in October.

I've also had the opportunity to see Enchant for 20-something € when they were supporting Spock's Beard in 2003 (and totally slaying The Beard in the process). I couldn't make it when they were on tour with Jadis a couple of years ago, but I'll definitely be there when they're around next time. A great live band!

Thats why i would pay so much to see enchant:notworthy because they are so totally awesome:notworthy

Most I've ever paid would have been between $80-100 for 3 different shows:

- Metallica in 2000.
- Iron Maiden/Dio/Motorhead at Madison Square Garden
- Heaven and Hell/ Megadeth

I'm not sure what I would be willing to pay to see my FAVORITE bands. I've really been spoiled by both of my favorite bands: the only Armored Saint show I've ever been to cost me $12 and Common Rotation played in my living room for donations and merch sales!

yeah, def spoiled in the states (though europe is way more spoiled. by far). It's just not as exciting anymore, plus local shows are much more fun for me because less people come out to see the bands, so it's all friends plus less assholes who normally show up to shows.

Europe gets all the great black metal shows/fests. One of these times I going up there for a month to catch some of em.

I wouldn't pay too much. I mean, I paid $22.50 to see SX, that is the best money on a concert I have ever spent. Saw Metallica years ago for about $35, and that was not as fun, too crowded.

I was going to go see Tool and Pearl Jam (separate concerts) at a venue that is 6 hours from me, but they both were on weeknights, and it sucks when I have work obligations....

I have to admit, as much as I complain about SX not playing a full set over here *grumble*grumble* we are incredibly lucky in Europe. Travel is relatively cheap and it's increasingly simple to jump on a flight/train and be in another city within a couple of hours.

The amazing thing is, and I really didn't appreciate this before, but SX are playing SIX GIGS, honestly, SIX, within a couple hours drive of my house (albeit in different directions) and one also happens to be 5 mins from here.

For a while there I took it for granted that if I wanted to see a show, by any artist for that matter, then of course it'd be no problem to see them at least once per tour!

I never really appreciated how fortunate I was until I considered visiting my brother in the US. I figured with my free time (he works long hours, I'd have to entertain myself for four or five days) I could catch a couple of SX gigs... and then I went on MapQuest to see which ones were feasible. ONE. One gig, just one; the Atlanta show. It didn't really hit me until then how lucky I was and how difficult it must be for some of you guys. I mean, I grew up with a handful of venues literally on my doorstep...I never had to venture out further than that. I used to go to gigs all the time, as a teenager especially, so I couldn't imagine growing up, not having a driving licence or other means of travelling independently, and having to find ways of venturing, sometimes right across state, to see a concert. Given those circumstances chances are I would never have made it to even a fraction of the gigs I have.

So, on reflection, in all seriousness of course, I suggest that you lovely people down under MOVE TO EUROPE and you lot over in the states join them (after seeing the full SX show first, of course)

I'm so there:kickass:
