It is very heavy. It has some refereces to old Metallica (Blackened, Orion), it is very heavy, it has some dark lyrics, and it is very heavy.
It's an awesome album. In the Name of God is my early favorite. Its about 3 polittical leaders. It is very majestic with an awesome main riff and brilliant outro. A definate DT Classic in the vein of Learning to Live. Will be awesome live.
Also, there is one of the heaviest pieces of music I have ever heard during Honour Thy Father (Written about Portnoys hate for his Step dad). After James sings 'Dont Cross the Crooked Step' in a distorted voice, a mega riff emerges that grabs you by the balls and crushes them 3 ways from sunday. Tis good shit
I am pretty sure that you would all like this album. It is different to most of Dream Theater's previous work. It does have the usual wank fest parts that I love, but overall, it is a different sound.
Go buy it, and then listen to it.
Oh, the album is pretty heavy too
