EVH 5150 III 50W, TS v's NO TS (Clips Inside)

I did a comparison on Blue and Red Channels with TS (Maxon OD808) ON and OFF using the same test DI. I thought I would share it in case anybody may be curious about TS use with this amp. Load them up in your DAW and Hard Pan them to one side, just as a single Guitar Track would be. WAV Version has the "test di" in it (excuse my dodgy playing):

EDIT: The 808 Settings were -
OD MIN
Tone 12 o'clock
Balance 1 o'clock

All files are RAW, no post EQ at all.

No TS sounds great and punchy on the red channel, I dig the Blue with the 808 a bit more, but still this is a very interesting comparison.

Thanks for the reply. I agree, the 808 seems to work well with the Blue Channel. It adds some tightness and Gain.

Yeah that's what I found with my 5150III *100w*. The red channel sounds more "In your face" without a boost (bit mushier with one) but the blue takes it REALLY well...get some nice pick attack going. The last album I did was one side red channel no TS, other side blue channel with TS.

That Maxon really seems to add quite a bit of harshness to the high mids, not sure if I like it tbh. Would have to hear it in a mix though.

Trevoire520, yeah, its always hard to judge solo guitar tracks. Here is a mix of the Red Channel with the 808 quadtracked. Same Mic position (and very similar amp settings) as the samples in this thread. Just High and Lo pass, no other EQ. It probably needs some.

They certainly do. But i don't think they stand up well against a mesa. Would recommend it to anyone that wants a good rehearsal/tour cab.
