I've searched this up and haven't really come across a fool proof method and the last thing I want to do is blow something up.

I want to use my EVH with some impulses to reamp an album....can anybody let me know what I need to use/connect to what.

And anything I should avoid...

Cheers!

Either use the preamp out (if it has one) into your interface and then load an impulse on the track, or run a cable from the Effects Send to your interface.

Make sure you have a load on the amp.

Not sure on how this works with the fender 5150, but the peavey 5150 is a bit tricky for this. (if you want to get some nice power amp saturation included that is) Hot plate all the way I say!

You simply plug the preamp output into a line in on the interface, and load the impulse on the track. Simple.

Usually, there must be a load on the speaker outputs at all times, but with the 5150 III the outputs are automatically shorted when there's no speaker connection, so there's no need for a load.

Really? If so that's pretty cool!

As expected it hasn't worked =p

Preamp out -> Mico's preamp = no signal

Tried it with the FX send and same deal.

It's also still coming out the cab? Isn't there an auto cab bypass when the preamp out is connected? I wanted "silent" reamping =\

Go for a used hotplate if u can. Makes ur life easier,
Btw concerning the evhiii and the outputa being shorted thats pretty neat! Didnt kbow that either

I did this a few weeks ago with my 5150. I liked the sound of the FX Send through my DI better than the Pre Out, for whatever reason. Put the amp into play mode (both switches activated), take the preamp tap from the FX Send into your DI, and insert a shorted (connections bridged) cable into the FX Return. This ensures that you won't get any output sound from your cab, but that the cab is still doing its job by providing the proper load. Load boxes and attenuators are dumb and expensive, just do it this way, it's cheap and super easy and won't damage anything.

Fx send into preamp and a short cable from the fx return into..?

Nothing! That's the beauty of it, the shorted cable just ensures that there is no voltage difference at the beginning of the power amp circuit, and therefore, nothing to amplify, so all you get from the cab is the noise floor and nothing else. Of course you do actually have to short the cable, so whether you open the cable and solder the connections together, or make a connector to plug it into which has shorted connections, it doesn't really matter. A normal cable simply plugged in and not connected to anything is considered an open cable.

Jake said shorted cable in his post, or a 1/4" jack that has the ground and hot wired to each other internally. :headbang:

Good luck with your preamp reamp endeavors.

EDIT: Damn, you're fast. I had to verify my new e-mail address and you beat me to the punch
