Hello all Pardon my first entry here as I will try to put a proper Introduce yourself entry in the General section shortly. Been a fan of the band since 2007 when EtG came out. I just had to post after seeing the guys live on Tues night at House of Blues in West Hollywood! Please forgive me for the long entry in advance
Got there late due to traffic and finding a place to park (not easy on the Sunset Strip unless you want to shell out some bucks, which is what I ended up doing). Got in the door just as Lazarus AD was starting their last song. $%#@! I had been hoping to see them as well but I was assured by a fellow metalhead that I had not missed Evile and they were on next! I grabbed (well, paid for) a beer and headed to the side of the stage. The stage area for the openers was small, due to the Kreator set taking up more space behind them. There was a screen lowered during each intermission while the bands changed their equipment out. I caught a glimpse of Matt doing soundcheck just as he happened to look over at me. I gave him the horns and he returned them after giving me a look like, somebody actually knows who we are? Haha. I also saw Ol setting up and yelled his name. The look he gave me was similar to Matts, but it was followed quickly by a smile and wave.
I got down on the floor as the opening notes to Infected Nation started up, followed shortly by ass-kicking in the utmost degree. For the rest of IN, I was in the last row of standing people with the few pit moshers behind me, so after being jostled a few times from behind, I squeezed up a bit to give myself some buffer space so I could sing along properly! The guys sounded awesome and, I think just as importantly, looked comfortable onstage in their first tour here in the U.S. I can also say that song by song, more and more of the crowd got into them. Bathe in Blood went over especially well you could feel the energy even in the non-moshers the heads and horns were definitely moving and flying. I took a few iPhone pics they didnt turn out so great but they were good enough to capture the moments.
Set list:
1 Infected Nation
2 We Who Are About To Die
3 Thrasher
4 Time No More [what, no Japanese version? ]
5 Bathe In Blood
6 Enter The Grave
All too soon, the set was over. The crowd vibe was definitely pumped up and wanting more. A guy next to me remarked how awesome they were, and although I certainly already knew this, I agreed with him just the same! I moved to a different spot for Kataclysms set (they were OK) and then headed to the back. A guy walked by me and it took me a minute to realize (due to him being the new face in the band) that it was Joel. I met up with him at the Evile merch table and we chatted for a minute. I then got the cool merch guy to take a pic (actually two, since the first one came out dark) of us with my iPhone. (In the pic, Joels giving the horns but its cut off at the bottom so it looks like hes giving the finger haha!) Then, one by one, I ran into Ol, then Ben, and then finally Matt (when he came out of hiding hahaha), chatted with each of them for a minute or so and got pics with each of them - thanks again to the merch guy and his girlfriend!
I can certainly say that all the guys are so damn down-to-earth and friendly in person! In general, I just congratulated them on making it to the U.S. and wishing them the best of luck. I did briefly talk to Matt about the Ghostbusters station house and you should have seen the smile on his face! He also said he thought American Big Macs were better than the UK versions, so the debate continues! Having never had the chance or pleasure of meeting Mike in person, I sincerely told each of them that they were doing Mike proud in carrying on. I could especially see in Joels eyes what that meant to him when he heard that.
By then Kreators set had started (and an awesome set it was), so I headed back to a good vantage point (the floor by then was packed and getting pretty nuts and I wanted to enjoy the music without getting blindsided). Didnt see the Evile guys after that so I can only guess they were either partying it up or getting some well-deserved rest. As for me, I consider myself lucky to have seen them, since I dont live close to L.A. and was only in the area due to other circumstances. I wont be able to catch them in April with Overkill, but who knows what the future holds in their touring? Again, awesome show guys!!!
