Thanks to several people in line while waiting for the Nightwish concert I was pointed to this forum. I am extremely new to the metal genre of music. Nightwish was my introduction, I have since been introduced to all female metal bands, Leaves Eyes, Lunatica, Within Temptation and I think Therion.

I like this kind of music so far, trying to see what else is out there similar, obviously doesn't have to be a female led band, that is just what i have been exposed to.

Thanks, and to those at the concert that listened to all of my newbie questions, thank you so much.

Draconian (Doom metal with some female vocals)
Helloween-Walls Of Jericho
Nevermore-Enemies Of Reality
Theatre Of Tragedy-A Rose For The Dead (EP)
Cacophony-Speed Metal Symphony
Dream Theater-Images And Words
The River-Drawing Down The Sun
Primordial-Spirit The Earth Aflame

If you're looking to expand into the more brutal areas of metal definitely check out bloodbath. If you're not ready for that yet and need to get your feet wet first, I recommend Kalmah and Imperanon.

no females in metal!

limbonic art- scorpio in the moon

First of all, it's Moon in the Scorpio. Secondly, that album does utilize female vocals on a couple tracks.

However, your recommendation is perfect for the thread starter, regardless of your sexist opinion.

Suffocation- pierced from within
Atheist- Unquestionable presence
cathedral- forest of equillibrium
dark angel- darkness descends

yaaaar!

Alright, guys. What the fuck makes you think someone getting into Nightwish is gonna dig some fuckin' brutal death metal? Better off trying some melodic death metal and thrash first, then ease into real death metal and then get more brutal...

Try In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Kreator, Testament...all kickass, not too intense, great metal, etc...

QFT. I never understood that either.

Newb: OH HAI GUISE, I LIKE LACUNA COIL BUT I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT METAL, SO RECOMMEND ME SOME MORE METAL
Random person 1: Oh, you'll like Aborted, it's great stuff.
RP2: Yeah, also try Despised Icon

No. Not everyone is like that.

Thanks for cutting off the rest of my post where I give 2 other recommendations that are an easier transition to from nightwish. You're right just because someone likes Nightwish doesn't mean they're ready for anything, but it doesn't mean that they aren't either. Thats why I gave him options instead of pretending like I knew exactly what his musical tastes were.

would be a good idea to at least put in brackets 'the bands I'm recommending aren't remotely the same as the one you like'. I mean, fuck, not everyone is able to say 'I'm looking for something in the symphonic/gothic range of metal' so it's a good idea to infer what they want by their examples, and not go 'hmm here's some brutal death that's awesome. it's not at all what you asked for, but you might like it'; in that approach you might as well shove a dildo up a man's ass when he asks for a beer.

Thats really a horrible comparison you know. He didn't ask for something specific (like a beer), he just said he's looking to expand his tastes. Nor am I forcing him to listen to it (shoving it up his ass), I just said if he wants more brutal stuff he should check out bloodbath.

The other 2 bands have a very power metal feel to them, but are obviously a step up from nightwish in terms of heavy/brutality/whatever you wanna call it. Since he said he wants to expand his tastes, I figure that he doesn't just want more and more power metal but to try new things. So why not soemthing that has a similar feel to nightwish, but with rough vocals to get him used to the more extreme end of metal?

Edit: (By the way, why is this such a big deal, if he doesn't like the music he won't listen to it anymore)
