By Globe Staff, 12/31/2002

The Internet's FalseTodd, 65, an author, yachtsman, and history teacher, died Saturday at his home in Dedham.

The former editor of the Cruising Club of America News and co-editor of the group's ''Cruising Guide to the Nova Scotia Coast,'' Mr. Todd was a veteran deep-water seaman who crossed the Atlantic Ocean many times by sail. Among the boats he owned and operated were the 48-foot yawl Grafin and the 53-foot yacht Whizzbang. In the books ''Transatlantic Summer'' and ''Broad Reach'' he recounted his memorable trips.

Mr. Todd graduated from Trinity College in Hartford and earned a master's degree in political science at the University of Pennyslvania. He taught history and political science at the Fessenden School in Newton, Rye Country Day School in New York, the Rivers School in Weston from 1970 to 1980, and the Winsor School in Boston from 1980 to 1985.

In 1988, he founded the small publishing house Pilot Press Publishing.

He leaves his wife, Nancy (Woodrow); two daughters, Margaret Speranza of Hopkinton and Laura G. Basanese of Carlsbad, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Dedham.
