I think that's the one song Meshuggah did not use Tomas on. I heard they all got high, one of the guitarists recorded all the guitars,used a drum machine and had Jens just yell like he does. It worked though

Lombardo (Slayer) is still tough to beat on his rolls.
There are so many death metal and powermetal drummers out there that can make a double bass sound like a machine gun, it's hard to pick between them.
As far as hand speed, going all over his set for fast fills, Mark Zonder (Fates Warning) is amazing. In fact, a lot of thwe prog guys can really do some amazing fills with serious speed.
Hmmm... that practically covered the good metal spectrum.

Exactly, which makes me wonder why he holds back so much of his talent. Slayer seems to tie his skills down, so to hear him play outside and just kick it on his own totally blows his band drumming away.Bryant said:

Dave is not the fatest or close. He is still one of the best and most tasteful drummers in heavy music. Other than that his drum tone sounds very great. He's loud,upfront without drowning out the band. I'd say his best drum work in slayer is on 'Season In The Aybss'. He shines and is very interesting on that album. The album lets him show his talent. His drumming on that cd shows he is just as good as any drummer. Tons of great fills,etc.. Slayer primed on that album creativley and musically IMO.
His drumming on South of Heaven is very good too. I like all his drumming in Slayer regardless. I think on South of Heaven and Seasons. show how good and serious he is as a drummer.

Being fast is cool, but it's just one aspect among many when it comes to judging drumming.

I'd put Tim Yeung as one of the fastest, he is very accurate too. Emperors drummers have all been very fast also. There are so many its hard to say properly. But Gene Hoglan is very fast on the pedal, but I havent seen him use his hands at full speed. Which is a shame, he is a great drummer.
I dont know if you guys have heard the band Burning Inside, but their drummer is probably one of the fastest drummers ever. The drummer from As I Lay Dieing is really quick on the double foot pedal. Probably the quickest drummer ever was the drummer from Rush, that dude could do 64ths. Being a drummer myself, that just blows me away.

Yeah, thats him.........I think. I have one of their albums lieing around here somewhere, I should just go look.LOL.
I forgot about Mitch Harris, he's all around very good. Not just because he's fast. His drum patterns,fills are great. The thing that makes Napalm Death great is the tremendous groove and flow the band has. You rarely hear a band groove like they do. Mitch and Jesse deliver badass riffs always.
