OK so the year has come to an end...what were your 5 fave records for the year? Mine were in no order

In Flames - A Sense of Purpose
Meshuggah - ObZen
Opeth - Watershed
Trivium - Shogun (killer - if you haven't listened to it do so)
Testament - Formation of Damnation

HM's to Metallica, Children of Bodom, AC/DC, and Death Angel.

my top 5 of 2008
1 lindsey buckingham- gift of screws
2 guns n roses- chinese democracy
3 black crowes- warpaint
4 los lonely boys- forgiven

In no particular order...

The Sword - "Gods of the Earth"
Grand Magus - "Iron Will"
Dozer "Beyond Colossal"
Opeth "Watershed"
The Mars Volta - "The Bedlam in Goliath"

with honors going to Metallica and Judas Priest
I had high hopes for Iced Earth and Hank III (not metal I know, but still awesome) but their 2008 releases weren't very good

the Hank III album was ok. the worst album this year that i heard was the new sammy hagar album. it sounds like a bunch of leftovers from previous albums and then it has a cover of "fight for your right to party" and the last track is a live version of "dreams/cabo wabo". its just horrid. literally the worst hagar release of his entire career

Metallica - Death Magnetic
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Avantasia - The Scarecrow
Edguy - Tinnitus Sanctus
Guns n Roses - Chinese Democracy/ Warrel Dane - Praises To The War Machine

The Butterfly Effect - Final Conversation of Kings
NIN - The Slip (just grows and grows on me more and more)
Slipknot - All hope is gone
Metallica - Death Magnetic
TDK - Soundtrack (loved the film and equally loved the soundtrack)

Tip of the hats too Soulfly's `Conquer'.

Trivium - Shogun
Testament - Formation of Damnation
Metallica - Death Magnetic
Children Of Bodom - Blooddrunk
My no.1 album of the year is
:headbang:Cavalera Conspiracy - inflikted :kickass:

Massive whoooops. Drove 6 hours today from Victoria pumping TBE and realised when I was driving I didn't include FCOK in my list. Bad omission!!!! Def in my 5 despite my initial 'meh' on first couple of listens. Worlds on Fire is just epic.

lol he said los lonely boys

it appears you are the only person who thinks thats funny:Smug:

soory i like santana and they play the same thing as santana but without 50 other guest vocalists singing on the songs. i'm diverse and don't listen to just metal, which is good because a metal band hasn't released the best album of the year in a very long time

In no order:

Inflikted - Cavalera Conspiracy
Conquer - Soulfly
Let There Be Blood - Exodus
Nostradamus - Judas Priest
D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N. - Destruction

Its been a good year for thrash. Next year looks good too.

1. Forest Of Shadows - Six Waves Of Woe
2. Funeral - As The Light Does The Shadow
3. Skepticism - Alloy
4. Mar De Grises - Draining The Waterheart
5. The Green Evening Requiem - Promo 2008

Runners up: Woods Of Ypres, Sculptured, Enslaved, Agalloch

I like everything posted, but my fav has to be of an obscure band called Straight Line Stitch. Saw their vid on HBB, found their CD at Best Buy and was blown away. Finally a metal band with a female singer who can convey anger and passion in screaming, not just "Hey I'm a chick and can scream". She completely blows away any male singer IMO, both with her screaming and GREAT clean voice. Just my fav, love Judas too and the new Testament...I have to see Testament live before I die, it must happen. Anxiously awaiting new Slayer, love Trivium too.

if anyone likes old school blues based hard rock jack bruce from cream and robin trower released a really good album this year called seven moons. its in my top 10 of 2008. just not my top 5

Mine would be...
Melvins-Nude With Boots
Torche-Meanderthal
Clouds-We Are Above You
Harvey Milk-Life...The Best Game in Town
Bison B.C.-Quiet Earth

Honorable mentions:
Big Business-Tour EP
Red Fang-Tour EP
Mars Volta-The Bedlam in Goliath
Earth-The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull

1.Testament - Formation of Damnation
2.OverKill - Immortalis
3.Peter Fox - Stink_monkey_city
4.Coldplay - Viva La Vida
5.Slipknot - All hope is gone

but next year most wanted 09 :
1.Nu Anthrax
2.Nu Kreator
3.Nu Sepultura
4.Nu Rammstein
5.Nu Slayer

Nothing really blew me away this year, but I listened to these the most

Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
Trivium - Shogun
Testament - Formation of Damnation
Mercenary - Architect of Lies
Opeth - Watershed
