Favorite comedians

I do love Kennison.

If anyboyd has a moment, and has a favorite comedy DVD let me know. I'll add it to my queue.

Bill Hicks - Live is essential viewing.

I'll also say Richard Jeni - Crazy from the Heat (although all of his stuff is incredible).

Hal Sparks - I've seen his standup show twice and I've been in tears each time.

Also by far, the most gracious and down to earth celebrity I've ever met. He takes time to do a meet and greet after every show for autographs, pictures and chit-chat.

I guess the whole mexican music thing is a whole lot funnier for me, because I live in Texas and I hear that shit constantly. It was funny because in my old band, that did instrumental music like andy timmons and so forth, at our old practice place there was a band there that played that shit and sounded exactly what Pablo was doing.

I’m not too up on the current crop of comedians, either. Most of my favorite “classic” comedians have already been mentioned…except Steve Martin. I don’t know if he does standup anymore, but all he has to do to make me laugh is raise an eyebrow.

Lately I’ve been watching episodes of the improv comedy show, “Whose Line is it Anyway?” on DVD. (Both the American and British versions). It’s great when someone can be funny with a routine prepared in advance and delivered night after night, but all I can say about the folks on this show is…

:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy

Patton Oswalt, Posehn, Mitch Hedberg (his delivery was awesome), Lewis Black, Bob Marley (if you know Maine, this guy is great), Mitch Fatel. I agree with Glenn to - Engval's family jokes and commentary is great.

About Dane Cook - I don't really know what to say. I have his discs, and the first two are absolutely hilarious. Demonic Speak and Spell, Slip and Bleed, BK Lounge, Chuck Norris bathroom kicks - real funny stuff. But then something happened. All of a sudden you weren't cool if you didn't know Dane. Then you have these girls and guys who need to listen to him, not because they think he's funny or know what he's talking about, but because everyone else is listening to him. So these kids are listening to him just to say they like Dane. So now these kids are at Dane's shows and they fucking CHEEEEEER and SCREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAM as loud as they can when he starts telling a joke that they know, just so everyone knows that they know. And it's annoying as hell to listen to his third disc where people are YELLLLLLING instead of laughing. But hey, he's still a Boston boy, and he's still funny.

I never thought Dane Cook was that funny. My friends think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I just can't get into the guy except for a few bits here and there.

But, like a few others have said, my favorite comedian ever is definitely Mitch Hedberg. R.I.P.

I like Dane Cook's vicious circle, but that was really the first I heard from him. I saw his comedy central bit, and my wife and I didn't like it at all and thought he was weird, then we saw vicious circle and thought he was hilarious. He is still hit and miss. I just downloaded his newest one to give it a shot, but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I still need to get Carlin's Life is Worth Losing, I have heard it and love it, but need to get the dvd(if there is one). His bit about fat fucking americans cracks me up.

Wow, I totally disagree on Pablo Francisco, but there seem to be a lot of fans here, so to each his own.

100% agreed. I was unlucky enough to see a Pablo Francisco "performance" about 3 years ago. The 2 local opening comedians were hysterical, while I didn't laugh once at Pablo's set.

Over-rated, IMO.

A few years ago, we saw (live) two of the guys from Whose Line (Brad Sherwood and Colin MaICan'tSpellHisName). I laughed so hard that I couldn't breathe.

Also, I'm a long time fan of Brian Regan (YtseJim from #ytsejam of years ago got me into him) and a newer fan of Demitri Martin, both of whom have been mentioned.

I don't understand why people don't find Pablo funny. His bits and pieces dvd makes me laugh so damned hard every time I watch it. His other stuff is hit and miss cause he does need some new material, but if I saw him live I'd be cracking up.

+1

When my friend Christian first let me hear his mix CD of Pablo bits (including his Comedy Central Presents performance) in my car, I laughed so hard I was weeping like a schoolgirl. Luckily I was parked at the time, behind a booth at the Georgia RennFaire.
When my friend came back out of the booth, he took one look at me (still teary-eyed and giggly) and said "NOW you begin to understand, young padawan." :)

For the rest of that Faire season, just the merest whisper of Pablo-isms from the back of our booth, drifting slyly over the wall, would give me the chuckles...at the very least. THAT was a fun season.
