I really dont give a shit if it is or isn't, theres no way i can pick one or two favorites from some of those genres without splitting them up and mentioning others. I'm still going to post my favorite Crust, Deathgrind and Crossover albums along with the other "major genres".

Death: Emtombed – Clandestine
Thrash: Slayer – Reign in Blood
Trad: Iron Maiden – Powerslave
Technical Death: Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage
Progressive: Ihsahn – After
Avant-Garde: Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors
“Glam”: Motley Crue – Too Fast for Love
Stoner: Kyuss - ..and The Circus Leaves Town
Sludge: Baroness – Red Album
Alternative: Janes’ Addiction – Ritual de lo Habitual

VIKING METAL – Graveland “Following the Voice of Blood” (Graveland’s transitional album IMO)
FOLK METAL – Agalloch “The Mantle”

If we're categorizing these albums in this way, then I've got to change my choices to both categories. However, FtVoB is more black then viking IMO. Glad to see someone else considers it Graveland's best though. Also I don't know why I chose Onward to Golgotha when Mortal Throne Of Nazarene is better.

Yeah, FTVOB is very bm oriented but I really wanted to give it a mention since it’s such a superb album and I’ve always seen the first bits of the “epic pagan metal” or “viking metal” or whatever you want to call the later Graveland style first coming through. Probably my favourite Graveland release along with “Thousand Swords”.
As for Agalloch’s “The Mantle” album, it’s a masterpiece and one of my all time favourites, but I had a hard time putting it in one metal subgenre. At any rate I sure prefer it to the more ‘happy’ folk oreinted stuff such as Finntroll and the like.

Oh and I agree, Mortal Throne.. is certainly better than Onward To Golgotha.

Eeeh.. not sure if I have favorites from a whole genre, but I'll try:

The years of decay (overkill) - Thrash
Holy diver (DIO) - Heavy
Versus the world (Amon Amarth) - Death
Invasion of your privacy (Ratt) - Glam
Crimson glory (Crimson Glory) - not sure what genre it is..
