Favorite Metal Lyrics?

Iced Earth lyrics, in my opinion, are very well written.... Dante's Inferno has got to be my fav though.

"Enter the sixth circle of barren land and flames
Passing through the gate of dis the furies scream her name
Belching forth in agony invoking her to rise
The spirit's rage consuming us the evil in their cries
Queen of vipers, queen of serpents
Cast their souls to stone
Spread to wealth of Gorgon's power
Medusa's inner soul"

My fav quote from that song... right there.

The Coming Curse is also a well written song.

Argholsent and Deathspell may be fucking great bands but their lyrics really are nothing to get exited about. Immolation lyrics are all the same and I found Gorguts approach extremely boring compared to how great their music is. Ah well different strokes I guess.

lyrics are overrated. i really dont give a crap about what they are saying. but if i had to choose, it would be absurdly gorey lyrics, cuz it brings a smile to my face. stuff from gorgasm, exhumed, impaled, gorerotted...

I honestly like lyrics about being awesome/wrecking necks/getting trashed more than...other Metal lyrics. Fantasy lyrics as well, of the Grave Diggerkind. \m/ >.< \m/

the terrible Nokrunal mortem side project in which vargoth or vaggroth (or faggroth HOHOHO) calls isahan a jew and says some due (from gorgoroth, from ghenna?) has a penis on his forhead.

hail the fuckin thunder god.

CRYPTOPSY

Our lady of seven sorrows,
Mother of mourning, precious lich...

A white horse found your grave,
Then it was beheaded.
The funeral goat's semen
Annoints your resting place.

Far below, the state you're in replenishes
My well of loss
As things from beyond watch as you rot
Beneath me.
Wretchedly, I pine as I begin at once to claw
The earth
To free you from the worms, to free you
From damnation.

A few of my favorites already mentioned... surprised no one has said anything about Dan Swano, not only a great musician but quite a good song writer... I´ve been listening to Nightingale's Alive Again quite a bit lately, here´s one of my favorites from that album, great lyrics and overall a great concept with the breathing shadow.

Falling
The darkness returned in this void where I will fall
All the dreams from my past they're all clouded by their call
I'm getting used to funerals that no one attends
So I'm following the shadows to where they will descend
(Oooh ...)

All I can hear is the rhythm of my heart
And the blood that will run for the last time in my veins
Nothing here can save me I am already forlorn
So let me leave this body let my soul be reborn

Now I feel that I am fading away (fading away)
Another destiny, a different day

I am no longer you, I'm falling
You are no longer me, I'm falling
We are no longer one, I'm falling

The feelings growing stronger
Now I know that it's you (I know that's you)
After all these years of pain
You're finally through

The pattern in the sky
I see a soul is reborn
The shadows, they gather in a celebration of life

Now I know he's no longer falling (falling)
Now I know he's no longer falling (falling)
Now I know that he's no longer falling (falling, no longer falling)

At the Gates - City Of Screaming Statues
Danzig/Samhain - Twist Of Cain
Fear Factory - Replica

The two latter songs are written unambigiously and very well. Everyone seems to think that songs that have hidden meaning and artistic edge are superior. WHY?

I also agree with Arghoslent though - they are brutal and uncompromising without being unneccessarily gorey and obscene.

Opeth
Just one second, and I was left with nothing.. Her fragrance still pulsating through damp air. That day came to an end, and she had lost in me, her Credence.

Megadeth
Let the ceremony consecrate the marriage ~ Let me be the protege of five magics

As I post every week when this topic pops up, "With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness" (and also every other At the Gates release except "Slaughter...") has supreme fucking lyrics, particularly "The Break of Autumn" and "Blood of the Sunsets"
