Favorite non-metal mixes

On its own, I think this is a good mix. However I heard 3 consecutive songs on the radio, different bands, with that exact same mix and its getting kinda old.

Personally, I've been loving me some AC/DC lately. Especially considering its age, this is a fucking kickass mix.

Amen to that man, this is one of the few mixes from the 70's and even later that stood fairly well to the test of time.

I don't get the love for the electronic tracks on the Daft Punk Tron OST. I have "Derezzed" in my references for a track on my upcoming album and of the 5 reference tracks it's easily the least impressive sounding ...

What are the other 4 tracks? Would love to expand my reference collection.

Truth be told, I tend to be a bigger fan of the electro/orchestra hybrid tracks on there, as they usually build more dynamics. It's less about the technical perfection of the mix to me, as it is about the movement, the riding, the nurturing of the arrangements with the mix.

@Jarkko: Do you mean that a lot of the source synth sounds come from ITB synthesizers? That Gross Beat thing was cool. I'm mostly talking about the mix though - to me it sounds like it was done on a board with some hefty analogue processing. I'd be amazed if the crux of it was mixed with plug-ins. You can hear how flat the straight synth coming from the top video is compared to the final TRON one, even on YT.

There's something that just speaks to me. It's definitely not hi-fi, but oh-so-good-sounding. Maybe it's the music that elevates this, but whattheheck... :Spin:

A bit of both. For example, I've read from many sources that Waves PIE was used really extensively in the mix. I've been trying to dig out some reliable information on the whole production process for a while without much luck. This is a rather interesting vid, but it's more about the sound design of the movie: http://vimeo.com/17426879

In any case, it's definitely an awesome soundtrack!
