Just as the title says. Favorite non-metal releases from 2013.

Outside of the metal umbrella, I listen to a lot of EDM, so I started checking out some of the albums listed here:
Rollingstone's Top 50 Ablums of 2013

My Non-metal favorites from 2013:
Pretty Lights - A Color Map of The Sun

Armin Van Buuren - Intense

Kaskade - Atmosphere

Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest

Some I've enjoyed...

Boards Of Canada
Sigur Ros
Ulver
Vali
Tim Hecker
My Bloody Valentine
The Knife
Penderecki - Piano Concerto / Flute Concerto (Antoni Wit)

Need to listen moar:

BURIAL!!!
Chelsea Wolfe
Julia Holter
Autechre
Eluvium

Just don't care much for modern music any more I suppose, but it's safe to say metal was not the best genre this year.

Probably forgetting something but, first draft...

- Wayne Shorter Quartet - Without a Net
- Black Mare - Field of the Host
- Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones - Quatorze Pièces de Menace
- My Bloody Valentine - m b v
- Pat Metheny - Tap: Book of Angels Volume 20
- Chelsea Wolfe - Pain if Beauty
- No Joy - Wait to Pleasure
- Ulver - Messe I.X–VI.X
- Lycia - Quiet Moments

Good stuff, I am new to them too. Got into them via John Patitucci (he plays bass there). How is Julia Holter? Been meaning to check her out but never gotten around to it for some reason...

My favorite two albums this year were Pain is Beauty by Chelsea Wolfe and Versions by Zola Jesus. They're both such deep and earnest records, records that you can tell the artist really gave themselves over to.

Some cool EDM:

Giraffage- Needs

Kaminanda- Ancestors and Guardians

Then I really liked the Pharmakon's debut. Really apocalyptic industrial.

Then as far as bigger bands, I enjoyed the new releases by Sigur Ros, MBV and Steven Wilson.

It's one of those cases where I listened so little so far that I remember quality but I couldn't describe said quality to you.
