Your favorite albums of 2013

In case anyone's interested, I stumbled on this thread looking for something to listen to, and aggregated the top 10 so far (probably won't be keeping this updated)

4. 6 Votes Summoning- Old Mornings Dawn
5-8. 5 Votes Autopsy - The Headless Ritual

9-10. 4 Votes Magic Circle - s/t

Did I miss something over the past few months, or did Lateralus become a totally different person? I remember him having some of the best taste on this board, and I definitely feel like it's a completely different person posting. Killing yourself is weaksauce, dawg. I almost did it a few months ago; overrated.

Anyway, I have to sort of identify with that sentiment of a "ehh, pretty good" 2013 metal album not really meaning much. The Summoning album was pretty good, but I'd rather just listen to their first three any day. New Inquisition definitely shows potential for greatness. Otherwise, the new Gorguts, Grave Miasma, Deeds of Flesh, Argus, and that Bolzer album are probably all I'll be investing much time in for a while.

Edit: New Portal too.

Don't bother with that Gorguts album. I wasn't impressed one bit with the few songs they released before the album dropped.

The new Carcass album is probably my favorite of the year followed by Korn's latest album Paradigm Shift. Good return to form for them.

Korn's still a band? Damn…

my favorite albums of 2013 in some order but not exactly.

Bolzer- Aura
Magic Circle - s/t
Culte des Ghoules - Henbane
Cult of Fire - 2013
Agrimonia - Rites of Separation
Wormlust - The Feral Wisdom
Grave Miasma - Odori Sepulcrorum
Orchid - The Mouth of Madness
Dream Death - Somnium Excessum
Kayo Dot - Hubardo
Lycus - Tempest
Sacriphyx - The Western Front
Inquisition - Obscure Verses of the Multiverse
Peste Noire - s/t
Gorguts - Colored Sands
Satan - Life Setence
In Solitude - Sister
Oranssi Pazuzu - Valonielu
Falkenbach - Asa

Edit: Looking at everyone else's list and links to tracks and that Zemial track was really good. About to buy the album now. :D

Not prepared to make an actual list because of the sheer volume of records we got for the year. In light of this I'll just whip up a quick list of my current Top 10 Metal Ep's of the year.

(In Alphabetical Order)

Arnaut Pavle: Self-Titled EP (Sick Finnish BM. Hear influences from Blaze era Darkthrone)

Black Magick SS: Panzerwitch (Psychedlic synthy BM)

Bölzer: Aura (Classic in the making)

Convulse: Inner Evil (Haven't heard the LP which also came out this year, but it seemed like it dissapointed. These 2 tracks though are killer.)

Cultemort: La Messe du Diable (Savage Blasphemy styled BM)

Mitchondrian: Antinumerology ("Atmospheric" Death Metal. For fans of Portal)

Necroblood: Second Blood (Probably the one I've heard most. Evil French Black/Death)

Nightbringer/Dødsengel: Circumambulations of the Solar Inferno (Nightbringer is one of my favorite current Black Metal acts, like pretty much all of their output. The Dødsengel half of the split is growing on me.

Ranger: Knights of Darkness (Real old school Speed Metal)

Sect Pig: Slave Destroyed (Disgusting, fucked up Von-worship)

I'd like to ask everyone. How much of your metal listening time is devoted to new releases? Do you mostly listen to newer stuff or are you digging through the library of metal?

When I had more free time I would review a lot of new black metal albums, which would compel me to check out a lot of new stuff. Now I don't really have the time so I just listen to what I'm in the mood for. It's usually a mix. In October/ early November I was on a mad old school thrash kick, now I've been listening to a good mix of old and new black metal. Just depends on my mood.

All in all, there were a lot of disappointments for me, some surprises too, so it wasn't that good of a year, Best/favorite albums of 13' are:

Soulfly - Savages, really nailed this, certainly didn't think it would be my album of the year, it saved metal for me in 13', Max showing everyone how it's supposed to be done, hasn't sounded this good in a long time, it has the best, sickest, heaviest, coolest riffs/music this year.
Amorphis - The Circle, wonderful folk/prog/death/doom metal, didn't think I'd like this
Kataklysm - Waiting for the End to Come, fav death metal band never disappoints
Rotting Christ - Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy, amazing perfect melding of black metal with goth/folk, didn't expect this
Soilwork - The Living Infinite, their definitive statement
Darkane - The Sinister Supremacy, modern thrash leaders really never dissapoint
Jungle Rot - Terror Regime, solid meat and potatoes death metal

Hon mention:

Necronomicon - Rise of the Elder Ones, if it weren't for the drumming, this would make it
Exhumed - Necrocracy
Deicide - In the Minds of Evil
Newsted - Heavy Metal Music

^ I think a separate thread would probably be better for that link and the discussion that it will likely generate? :)
