Favorite styles

1. Black/Death Metal
2. Post-Punk/Goth/No Wave/nihilistic crap (late 70s-late 80s only)
3. Shoegaze/Post-Rock
4. Indie rock (as non-descript a genre as it is, put New Pornographers, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, etc. here)
5. Synthpop/New Wave (Wall of Voodoo, Naked Eyes, Oingo Boingo, Thomas Dolby; yes there is good synthpop, stfu)
6. Tom Waits

it's really hard to say what categories I like better than others...some bands from genre A are just better than some bands from genre B and vice versa, regardless of which genre I have a more general preference for.

1. Gothic music/metal (very selective though)
2. Black Metal
3. Industrial/electronic
4. Other extreme metal (Death, Doom, etc)
5...

It's hard to say for me because there are some of my favourite bands who won't fit into the genres I've mentioned...so notable mentions include some hard rock, death rock, ambient as well as glam and darkwave influenced music.

The bands London After Midnight, and early Theatres des Vampires represent two different yet 'ideal' styles of music perfect for me.

1. Black metal
Even though my favourite bands includes something from many different genres, most bands that I like plays black metal. These for example: Thorns, Emperor, Arcturus, Dødheimsgard etc.

2. Doom Metal
I am not deeply into doom metal, but many doom metal bands I like are very high in my favourite bands, like My Dying Bride, Void of Silence, Dolorian, Reverend Bizarre, Aarni and so on.

3. Ambient / Electronica / Experimental
I can't name one electronic genre that I like most cause I am not good naming these styles. Best are Ulver, Coph Nia, Runes Order, Star of Ash and Peccatum.

4. Folk / Folk & Viking Metal / Industrial Metal
Folk metal and industrial metal are both somehow very near each other in my ear. Powerful guitars and bombastic outfit. Moonsorrow, Falkenbach, Rammstein, The Kovenant, Einherjer, Turisas, Samael, Deathstars.

Now that we've had a 'Lowest Form(s) of Music' thread, what are the genre you like most?

For me:

1.Metal
2.Celtic
3.Dance
4.New Age
5.Hip-Hop/Rap (foreign or underground)

Never expected number 3 but it shows you are very open to music.:kickass:

Haven't listened to a lot of dance but I do enjoy a lot of Synth solos. Like the one in Everytime We Touch and in I'm Blue.

I like some Classical music, I don't like the ones who just bore you with a dull violin that isn't playing anyting special. I like Beethoven a lot.

1. Metal (can't be arsed to order specific sub-genres)
2. Ambient & Dark Ambient
3. Indie Pop & Indie Rock
4. Electronica/IDM
5. Old school & Stoner Hip-Hop
6. Ska & Melodic Punk
7. Folk pop & Acoustic folk
8. Techno & some House

Some interesting stuff has been posted here. I know this is off topic but does anyone find RHCP fans to be closeminded? Someone said somewhere (not on this forum) that they tend to be. I kinda think its true, I have a friend who is a big fan of their old stuff and he hates screaming and only likes clear vocals.

well... right NOW I would have to say,

1. metal
2. classic rock
3. grunge
4. folk
5. electric singer-songwriters

"rawk-type-tuff" forever.

Classic Rock is great, under that in Rock I would have the really popular underground Rock (The White Stripes, The Strokes etc.)

I like the atmosphere in Southern Rock and Country, its like saying "we have no money but we're happy".
