Favourite Band

better than Marillion... enlighten me :)

The influence comes from Fish-era, not Hogarth-era.

See, for example, "Centurie" by Abraxas, "Exist" by Millenium, and "Moonshine" by Collage. They all sound a lot like 80's neo-prog, particularly Marillion, mixed with classic prog influences, mostly PF as I said.

Riverside.

Well, that´s the only I know :D.

More names please?

Yeah, Riverside is related, but I'm not incredibly fond of them because of their prog metal / Porcupine Tree influence.

I already mentioned Millenium, Collage, and Abraxas. There's also Believe, Quidam, and Satellite. Abel Ganz, though a British band, has recently released an album in the Polish school entitled "Shooting Albatross."

Quidam has had some excellent albums. Will look into the others. I prefer H to Fish, but the classic stuff is still good.

The Polish bands tend to be sort of..."precious?" Very warm and sentimental, almost gooey or saccharine sometimes. It is Fish-influenced, but it's basically Fish stripped of the Peter Hammill influences, if you can picture that - or like Fish in his later solo career. In the sense that they're more relaxed, they sound a bit like H-Marillion, but they're much more rooted in traditional prog.

I also noticed that the topic wasn´t prog metal. I just mentioned them because I remember hearing that their favourite bands are PF and Marillion (among others).

My bad :)

Back into topic, this description sounds really attractive:

I must check out, thanks!

Not at all - Riverside is actually a perfect example, because they happen to be Polish too. For some reason the Poles love Pink Floyd and Marillion - not sure why.

Animals: Boring as fuck.
Meddle: Meh-ddle.

ehhhhhh... I just cringed a bit.

They sit on a high fuckin pedastal because they are amazing albums...not because you need an illicit substance to make them sound good. For the record, Pink Floyd was sober as a damn bird while they recorded everything, not including Syd Barrett, of whom only did their first two albums.

I know you may not like any of this stuff right out of the gate..that's fine because everyone's different. But just try to absorb some of their substance. I find the lyrics to "Time" to be phenomenal... I am sort of praying that its not too late for you

"absorb" would be great if I were a sponge, but I've heard much better, interesting music. Opinions differ. I cringe a little bit when people deify stuff I find... average.

Okay..."take in"...is that more human-like? lol

I'm with you when it comes to cringing...when someone does it to me, I can't help but think, how? Because I know what they are hearing is, well, AWESOME!! Maybe they just can't hear it yet...

Dave Mustaine has one friend.:D

Mustaine: "One of the highlights for me was when my good friend Michael Romeo [SYMPHONY X guitarist] came up to me during one of the breaks in the show and gave me a much-needed bear hug.

"I love SYMPHONY X!

Mustaine comes off as a cocky a$$hole..which is fine. Maybe he just loves that image.. But even an a$$hole needs lovin too...hahaha... "You're just an a$$hole, I'm a minge!!"

I'll never forget how sad-eyed LePond looked when I asked him if he had been able to contribute any songwriting credits on PL when I spoke to him backstage at BB King's in 2007. Now that we fully know how backed up these other four guys must feel since MJR commandeered all of the songwriting, I'm glad that LePond has been able to flex his creative muscles finally.

And this stuff sounds better than 95% of what's on Iconoclast.

LePond rules.

And no way that stuff is better than IC. The title track alone is better than anything these guys will come up with. :Smokedev:
