hello
im a n00b to recording and i just want some 'professional' feedback on how my typical recordings actually sound
replica
soulfly
i use a pearl ex kit and ibanez 350ex for drums & guitar
i use a pair ok mk012's as spaced overheads
a '57 on the snare, and the kicks are sampled with andys kick sample
so... whats the verdict

You are on the correct path. The kick is way to damn clicky. Almost to the point to were it sound like it clipping (but not). Get some bass in the mix for a better judgement/

I think the Kick sounds fine. How are your overheads panned? Snare sounds a little funny. I think the drums sound okay. But the guitar, meh. Are you looking to improve that too?

P.S. ignore me if you like, I'm not a professional. just thought I'd comment. :)

haha there is bass in there, but as i said in another thread, i dont have a bass
so i use a clean guitar, with plenty of EQ of course, i know it doesnt actually work very well, but it works better than no bass
the overheads are panned to extreme left and right
the kicks are sampled, the snare is miked, and the 10' 12' and 13' (horizontal) toms are miked as one input...
the guitar is fed into a zoom 707 fx pedal, and i use VHALEN effect, that then goes into the amp and that into the tascam
its a shit method, and so i use lots of EQ after, miking the amp just doesnt work for me
i am looking into getting a pod xt tho, or a guitar port (whats the difference?)

Cool, I'm hearing a lot of cymbals in the middle, maybe you're just playing ones that are going into both mics, I think the POD is a good idea. Just remember to get the metal pack. I THINK the xt is a box and the port is in the computer.

well the cymbal in the middle thing is because i have recently added the 6th mic which picks up all 3 toms, and has incredible bleed of the other instruments
i noticed this when hearing them on my proper speakers, but it wasnt so apparent on my headphones
i think i am going to change the position of the mic, or just get rid of it altogether
