Hey guys,

I'm looking to replace my laptop for college this January. I've found a couple of Asus laptops that have a mini-firewire port, and I want to know if it is acceptable to connect either an M-audio ProFire 610, or a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.

This is my first Firewire rig, and it sucks that I can't take a desktop to college.

Let me know if this is a functional way to do this,

Thanks guys.

Mini firewire I believe is 4 pin, whereas proper firewire has 6pin. The extra 2 pins are for power, and even though my focusrite is powered it would not work off the mini firewire port. I had to buy a firewire PCMCI card.

Anyone know about the M-audio interface? Can someone recommend me an interface that I can use for both in the studio and live situations that will fit this? Unfortunately it's very hard to find a laptop with a full Firewire port.
