First Headliner Announcement (and roster change)

But will you recognize him w/o his hair? ;)

His sheer awesomeness will be enough to notice him within the crowds. He is surrounded by a thick aura, not unlike Rick James' in this picture:

Man... Iced Earth is great. Astral Doors was one of the bands I was most looking forward to. But with a PP X commitment, I'm not too disappointed.

I've never really listened to Rob Rock. Just know a lot of people around here toss his name around.

I saw Rob at a show he did in Puerto Rico a while back, it was a great show. That man can sing, plus his backing band was pretty amazing as well.

A big dissapointment that Astral Doors won't be there but Rob Rock filling that slot is just AWESOME!!! Too bad it wasn't a band like Volbeat or Spheric cancelling. Iced Earth headlining Saturday night is OK but there are so many better bands than IE to choose from. Oh well, can't have them all!!! No matter what, I will still be there to support all bands and this AWESOME festival!!

Although the solo stuff kicks ass - just needs to be given a chance by a lot of folks. Hopefully this will be their chance.
Here's the problem with artists like this... they're discography is too large. I believe this was the biggest problem with Rage. Had they three discs to their name, they probably would have had more people check them out prior to the fest, and more folks would have stayed for the show. Most people like to be familiar with the music they're going to hear. I'm simply not going to spend the next year of my life listening to Rob Rock, so that I can be familiar with he's going to perform that night. And if I'm not familiar with an artist, there's a greater liklihood that I'll simply hang at the bar while they're on.

This release made me both want to jump and shout for joy and cry at the same time.

I'm really excited about Iced Earth, but I was really really looking forward to seeing Astral Doors play. (They and JOP are the two bands I was excited most about.) I'm sure Glenn will find a totally suitable replacement, but I'm still sad. Iced Earth will be awesome I have no doubt, but I've seen them before and right now seeing them doesn't make up for not seeing a band I have never seen before with one of my favorite vocalists. :headbang: (Nils just rocks my worlds right now.) Hopefully we will have a chance to see Astral Doors on the ProgPower stage in a future year. Although now the guessing can begin on who will replace them on the roster ... Nothing against him or his band, but I personally hope it is someone other than Rob Rock.

(EDIT: Yes, I realized I spoke to soon, before my eyes had adjusted to the full post. See my post about 7 down. I am very happy that AD will be on next year's roster.)

Helloween is my hope for the other headliner.
I second that!

Not surprised.

But very pleased. This was a coup and a half. IE, quite possibly, at the height of their popularity, coming off one of the most exciting line-up changes ever, following an album that many consider their best...what could be better?

Not much beats the power and presence of Iced Earth. They friggin' rule.

Bravo Glenn. Well done.

Sad to hear about Astral Doors, though. I was stoked to see them. But stuff happens. No sweat.

Bill

P.S. If I was a betting man, I'd lay all my money on Helloween being the second headliner. :)

Thank you sooooo much glenn!!!
You've made me one of the happist metalhead in Atl!!

Id hope he'd atlaest get the better half of that tour, Gamma Ray.

I know I am going to get mega-flamed for this, but I am 10X more excited about Rob Rock than I am about Iced Earth. That's not to say that I am not an Iced Earth fan, I just ... really like Rob Rock ... A LOT ... this PP is shaping up to possibly be the best one ever now ... but I keep saying that every year ...

My brain is floating in a pool of metal nectar!

Not suprised, but very happy about the IE call. Also, a little disappointed in Astral Doors but very excited about getting to see Rob Rock again!

I couldn't agree more! Way more excited about Rob Rock here as well...especially after hearing his most recent album!

There is no problem with Rage whatsoever

80% agreed. If its a band I'm not familiar with, catch the first song, hit the bar, get tanked, then go catch the last song! :kickass:
