First Headliner Announcement (and roster change)

I stayed, and am glad I did since seeing them in the US again doesn't seem to be likely anytime soon. Wouldn't have missed their entire set for all the grits in GA.....
Dave and I stayed for Rage. Unfortunately, it was one of our earlier Prog Powers and we were exhausted. They just didn't deliver enough to spark energy that late in the fest. Other "well-known" band members were watching with us and were also feeling a little less than inspired. The consensus was that it wasn't there best perfomance. I'd love to see them again though.

Iced Earth will undoubtedly guarantee another sold-out show this year. In addition, Rob Rock will make a great addition to the fest. Even though Astral Doors has to back out, it's great to know that we can look forward to seeing them at ProgPower X. This is all pretty sweet!

As for those who express their concern with the "Rage effect," I have to ask why this is such a problem. I do understand why Rage didn't get the warm welcome as a headlining band for ProgPower IV, but I also believe that if people gave them a chance that they would have understood why they've been around as long as they have. Rob Rock is not headlining, so why are people complaining? Are you expected to know an artist's entire discography, however vast, if you're going to see them in concert? I didn't know that was the criteria. Besides, who knows what will happen if you get your asses out of the bar and actually watch the band you never bothered to check out before the show? You might just *GASP!* like them after all. One of the reasons I go to festivals is to discover bands that I previously haven't heard, be they older or newer acts. After all, if my money's going toward the fest, I'd like to see my hard earned cash put to use.

Stay metal. Never rust.

Iced Earth and Rob Rock, Glen you have just made my day! My ears are still ringing from my wifes screams of celebration over the news of Rob Rock. We have wanted to see him at progpower for years now he will not be a dissapointment. Iced Earth are gods what else can i say.

Id hope he'd atlaest get the better half of that tour, Gamma Ray.

Same here; Gamma Ray is my quasi-official prediction for the other headliner at the moment.

EDIT: holy shit, I just agreed with rms. Someone shoot me or somethin'!

Newsflash! Some of us didnt stay and watch Rage becuase hey guess what? WE DONT LIKE THEM! I keep reading over and over about how Rage had no crowd because no one wants to be familiarized with a big catalog. I know Rage's catalog, and I dont like it. THATS why I didnt watch the show.

I wasn't familiar with them, but that wasn't the reason why I wasn't there. Evergrey were doing their only autographing session of the weekend during Rage's set, and that's where I was. There were a LOT of people there, too.

Kai and Piet in the same festival .... I'm praying immediately :)

... though RHAPSODY would have me grinning ear-to-ear, too, especially after I just got their entire discography in the mail a few days ago :D

Awesome pick. I look forward to this. I wanted to see Astral Doors, but I guess seeing them in '09 will be cool.

As far as Rage goes, I will maintain until the day I die that what did them in was the absolute horrid sound mix that was way too loud, and turned every song into sonic sludge. I love Rage, am familiar with most of their music, and couldn't always figure out what song they were playing. Mary started listening to Rage after that PP (her first), and kept saying "This is the same band we saw at Prog Power?!?". Add this to the autograph session, and the fact that after the emotional gut-punch that was the Circle II Circle and Evergrey sets, there was no way almost any band was going to hold that crowd, especially with the sound mess.

Just my dumb opinion, as always...

Everybody seems to be claiming that this will ensure a sellout. I don't know that I agree. It's not like IE doesn't tour, or that they won't tour after this. If they don't tour, then yeah, it will sell out. If they announce a tour, I don't think IE will really draw a hell of a lot.

I'm still psyched about seeing them though. :headbang:

Iced Earth.... Eh. Used to be one of my favorites up until Horror Show.... Seen them 4 or 5 times dating back to The Dark Saga period, was hoping to see somthing new. Unless Gamma Ray is the other headliner, Iron Savior will be the highlight for me.

I had just started getting into Astral Doors, that's a bummer about them.

Glenn;

How do you top this?!? You said that one announcement would "cement the ProgPower name." Now that this has happened, who is the other headliner? Short of Iron Maiden, how can you possibly top this? I can say this: This is guaranteed to be the fastest sellout in PPUSA history. Even if the Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad is the other headliner, the TicketBastard site is gonna crash when these babies go on sale.

Great job, Glenn!

Actually, they probably won't -- or can't -- announce a big accompanying tour. When Matt rejoined the band, their press-release stated clearly that they would only be able to play a few exclusive dates, due in part to Matt's continuing job as a police officer. (Maybe also due to Jon's back problems, mentioned elsewhere on the forum.)

HEY HEY HEY ENOUGH OF YOUR NEGATIVITY.

Like I should take any pointers from an Elvenking sponsor. Please.

Yeah. And one who misspelled 'official' in his sig.  :saint:

Yeah, those 900 tickets will bring the server to its knees for sure

...

LOL.

I'm sure the servers can handle the rush, but... It will sell out. Iced Earth will be very limited in touring if they can at all. With Barlow's real job restricting them ProgPower USA will be one of the limited opportunities to see them

I have no doubt that it'll sell out quickly; I just found the idea of a 900-ticket event bringing down TM's servers amusing (especially considering there are probably at least 10x that many people trying to buy Hannah Montana tickets for a single show). :)
